Not only are we getting The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Zelda, but we also have a completely free demo to get our teeth into (sort of). CryZENx was working on their very own The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of TIme Remake long before Nintendo decided to revisit one of the greatest adventure games of all time. In fact, this unofficial version has been 10 years in the making and, alas... will never be finished. The creator has decided to pull the plug on the project in light of Nintendo releasing an official remake later this year. To avoid a lawsuit and perhaps even prison time, CryZENx has ceased working on their remake. YouTube The news isn't all bad though, as CryZENx has made their unfinished playable demo available to all for free. The latest version of the game, which was created using Unreal Engine 5, was previously locked behind a Patreon paywall. Now that no future work will be done on the project, the creator has released the 5-hour demo completely free to the public. So, while we wait for more news of a release date for Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, we can actually play a superb modern version of the game right now. This free demo shows off the visual flair on offer with dynamic lighting, gorgeous high-quality textures and particle effects that make the whole experience look magical, just as Nintendo originally intended. The demo takes place at the very start of the game and with over 5 hours of content, you'll be exploring the first dungeon beneath the Great Deku Tree, galloping across Hyrule Field and visiting iconic locations like Lon Lon Ranch, Kokiri Forest and Hyrule Castle to name but a few. YouTube Everything from the character animations to the in-game menus has been lovingly reimagined and the level of passion and skill that has been poured into this ten-year project is evident from the very first second you boot up the demo. Best of all, Zelda fans can download the demo right now and enjoy it while we wait for the official remake to launch later this year. The only downside is that we won't ever get to see this project reach completion. With other Nintendo properties like Mario Kart appearing on PC for the first time, it would seem that fans are always eager for more. Knowing we're getting an official remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of TIme is amazing and while most are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Grand Theft Auto VI, I personally can't wait to fall in love with this N64 classic all over again.
