NurPhoto//Getty ImagesIf this week’s forecast is anything to go by, the cold, wet season has arrived early, and it’s brought an umbrella-defying wind with it. So, cue the sideways-rain that finds its way down your collar on the walk to the station and calls for a coat that can actually cope–ideally, a layer that reads more city chic than ready to scale a mountain. And this season, Zara has made that search so easy. The new Water-Repellent Padded Hoodie Anorak is a grown-up take on the puffer. Understated chevron-inspired quilting gives it shape rather than bulk. The cropped cut sits at the waist, so it falls neatly over high-waisted trousers and keeps your legs looking long. That’s a far cry from the sleeping-bag silhouettes of puffers past. Then there’s the color. Chocolate brown is the shade of the season, and this one is rich, deep and softer than black. According to Zara, it’s best styled with neutral accessories, oversized sunglasses and straight-leg denim. The result looks effortless in the way very considered outfits do.ZaraZaraThe practical side is just as impressive. Impromptu showers bead straight off the technical fabric, which also offers good resistance to wind. Zara rates its thermal comfort between 8°C and -19°C, which covers pretty much anything winter is likely to throw at you. A high neck and adjustable hood with elasticated drawstrings seal out the chill. Cuffed sleeves and a drawstring hem stop draughts sneaking in, while adding shape.Small touches make a big difference, too. The front welt pockets fasten with zips, so there’s no more phone anxiety on the bus. They’re also lined with fleece, giving cold hands somewhere cozy to hide. Not into chocolate brown? Two more colorways have just landed. A new pink stripe brings a playful hit of fun to the festive season, and would look brilliant thrown over a party outfit for Christmas drinks. Classic black, meanwhile, goes with everything you already own.At $80, this is the rare coat that ticks every box: warm, weather-ready and genuinely stylish. New-in Zara outerwear has a habit of disappearing once temperatures drop, so I wouldn’t wait for the first frost to snap it up.Kara KiaEcommerce Editor, Women's LifestyleKara Kia is the Ecommerce Editor for Women's Lifestyle at Hearst UK, leading Cosmopolitan UK's digital shopping strategy across fashion, beauty and lifestyle.
