Your Pixel could soon help you diagnose issues with calls, mobile data, and Wi-Fi

Joe Maring / Android AuthorityTL;DR Google is working on a new “Connectivity health” feature for Pixel devices. It will identify issues with mobile data connectivity, calls, and Wi-Fi. It will also help users fix identified issues with step-by-step instructions. Google offers plenty of options for running self-diagnostics on Pixel phones. Whether you’re experiencing touch issues or Bluetooth connectivity problems, your Pixel can help with step-by-step troubleshooting. Now, it seems Google is planning to make it easier for users to diagnose and fix common issues with mobile data, calls, and Wi-Fi on their Pixels. You’re reading an Authority Insights story. Authority Insights brings you all the latest exclusive reports, app teardowns, leaks, and in-depth tech coverage from the Android Authority team that you won’t find anywhere else. While looking into the latest Pixel Troubleshooting app (v1.0.962958926), we came across and manually enabled a new set of troubleshooting options that Google is working on. When the feature rolls out, users will see a new “Connectivity health” option in their Pixel’s “Network & internet” settings. Tapping it will let users know whether their phone has detected an issue with Wi-Fi, mobile data, or calls. The feature will also provide further help with dedicated “Mobile data diagnostics,” “Call diagnostics,” and “Wi-Fi diagnostics.”Mobile data diagnostics will let users check their data connectivity and speed. It will also show recommendations to improve their cellular data connectivity. For example, it suggested setting Private DNS to “off” or “automatic.” It will then generate a report of all the settings changed during the process. Once everything is done, the Connectivity health option will show a “Normal” status.Call diagnostics and Wi-Fi diagnostics could also work in a similar way. However, it seems those features aren’t ready yet. We could only see their initial screens, and the troubleshooting steps weren’t showing up. Call diagnostics will help users identify issues with incoming and outgoing calls, while Wi-Fi diagnostics will let users diagnose issues with their Wi-Fi connection. These diagnostic features haven’t rolled out yet, and Google is clearly still working on them. However, they could potentially be very useful. We’ll keep an eye on these features and update you with any notable changes as we learn more.⚠️ An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release.Thank you for being part of our community. Read our Comment Policy before posting.
