Young country star ‘shouldn’t be here’ after horrific crash leaves him blind in one eye

Getty ImagesBy Brian Linder | blinder@pennlive.comCountry music singer Keaton Adams has broken his silence after an early August crash left him fighting for his life in a hospital.The 24-year-old singer shared the details — including photos of himself covered in blood next to his mangled car — on Instagram. “I don’t know where to start,” Adams said in one video he shared there. “I got in a really bad car accident. They said I was going about 80, 90 miles an hour, flipped the car a couple times. I wasn’t wearing my seatbelt. Fractured my fibula, and I’m blind in my right eye.“With that being said, I’m still breathing, and if I’m still breathing, I’m still singing and doing what I love most, so we are going to keep going and we are excited about that,” he added. “It’s kind of crazy, man. I really shouldn’t be here, and I am very blessed to, I guess not really walk away, really crawl away. It’s just kind of crazy man. It’s crazy that I’m here, and it’s crazy that I get to talk to you guys.”Adams posted another video showing photos of the aftermath of the crash. “The guy who pulled me out, his name is Aaron,” he said. “He’s a 21-year-old who was just happening to drive by who pulled me out from the car. He took two pictures, and the reason he took two pictures is because he thought it was going to be the last time that I’d be seen alive, and he wanted to snap the pictures for my family.”Adams also showed off photos of his scans, including one that revealed a large chunk of glass in his eye. “The glass that got stuck in my retina, took about eight hours to get out,” he said. “It’s crazy man, I had like 20 hours of surgery in like four days.”Adams’ fans were first alerted that he was in an “accident” by a post on his Instagram in early August. “Last night, Keaton was involved in an accident and is currently receiving medical care,” a statement on his Instagram read on Aug. 8. “Unfortunately, he will no longer be able to perform tonight at Coupland Dance Hall with Giovannie & The Hired Guns. “Keaton is in good hands, and right now our focus is simply on his health and recovery,” the statement continued. “We’re incredibly grateful to the first responders, medical professionals, friends, and everyone who has reached out. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and ask that Keaton and his family be given some privacy at this time. We’ll share any necessary updates regarding upcoming shows.”A follow-up post was made on his Instagram on Aug. 11.“Thank you to everyone who has reached out, checked in and sent their support over the last few days,” it read. “Keaton has undergone multiple surgeries following his accident and is now out of surgery and continuing to receiver care. We’re incredibly grateful for the medical teams taking care of him and for the outpouring of support from everyone who has reached out. Right now, the focus is simply on Keaton’s recovery. Out of an abundance of caution, all performances scheduled for this weekend, August 14 and 15, have been canceled. “We know there are a lot of questions, but we ask that everyone continue to respect Keaton and his family’s privacy while he recovers,” the statement added. “We’ll share additional updates when there is more to share and when the time is right.
