After working for an indie game studio and acting as the family's go-to technician for all computer issues, he found his passion for writing and decided to use his skill set to write about all things tech. Since beginning his writing career, he has written for many different publications such as WorldStart, Listverse, and MakeTechEasier. However, after finding his home at MakeUseOf in February 2019, he would eventually move on to its sister site, XDA, to bring the latest and greatest in Windows, Linux, and DIY electronics. Sign in to your XDA account Summary Bear Byte is a cute 3D-printed ESP32-S3 gadget that shows PC stats so you don't have to keep Task Manager open. Wire-free Bluetooth link streams real-time CPU, GPU, RAM, temps, and network stats across four pages. Full DIY: Instructables guide, BOM, and 3D files let you print and build your own adorable monitor. Probably the most annoying part of using Task Manager is that it takes ages to load when you need it the most. So, what if you had an independent tracker that saved you from keeping Task Manager on your screen? And what if it was super cute, too? Well, that's exactly what this delightful ESP32-S3 project aims to do, and I think it did an amazing job. Bear Byte is the cutest way to check what's thrashing your CPU You can build your own at home, too Over on the ESP32 subreddit, user Choice_Border_8904 showed off the Bear Byte. At its base, it's pretty simple: it uses a 1.47-inch IPS touch display module with the XIAO ESP32-S3 Plus from Seeed Studio. However, there are two things that make this really stand out. First, it doesn't need a wire to connect to your PC: Bear Byte connects to my PC over Bluetooth and uses a custom Windows application to display real-time CPU, GPU, and RAM usage, temperatures, and network upload and download speeds. It features four different pages that you can switch between, including a system summary, detailed hardware usage, a dedicated network monitor with a live graph, and CPU and GPU temperature graphs. Second...well, look at it. It's the cutest little device I've seen all month. And because it's all 3D printed, you can fire up your own printer at home and make it yourself. Maybe even for something that isn't a PC monitor at all; I certainly wouldn't blame you for finding more ways to put this cute shell to good use. If you want to make your own (and I certainly don't blame you), be sure to head over to the project's Instructables page for a guide, a bill of materials, and the 3D files you need to make the most adorable monitor ever.
