Sure, the chic, streamlined space is a touch larger and brighter, but the viral buckwheat noodles in perilla oil have endured; so, too, the queues that form like clockwork, even on a weekday afternoon. The six-strong suite of gukbap – or soups with rice – remains the main event, each a quiet lesson in refined complexity. The thick and milky gomtang doubles down on beefy richness with generous slices of brisket, while the kongnamul-haejangguk proves a rewarding deviation from the meatier options, anchored in a nuanced prawn-and-anchovy broth. For an extra protein hit, start with suyuk that’s as good as plainly boiled pork belly gets – and better still with the ravishingly fresh kimchi salad alongside and the sweetly spiced ginger-cinnamon punch as a chaser. Still very much worth the wait.Good to know: There’s no takeaway, but heat-at-home soups are available for purchase.Good Food reviews are booked anonymously and paid independently.
