X.Org Server 26.1 Moves Closer To Release As Half-Decade Update

We're getting closer to the X.Org Server 26.1 stable release as the first new tagged feature release since X.Org Server 21.1 debuted back in October 2021. There have been some new features, many code reverts, and many bug fixes merged over the past five years that will culminate with the X.Org Server 26.1 stable release. At the beginning of the year Alan Coopersmith of Oracle laid out hopes of a new xorg-server release in 2026 and it's looking like that goal will be delivered. Last month saw the X.Org Server 26.1 RC1 while out this week is now a second release candidate. This second X.Org Server 26.1 release candidate brings fixes to XKB, X Input, and other small fixes throughout plus Meson build system updates. It also bumps the X.Org Server's ABI for its extension version and video driver versions, which will be useful for the NVIDIA packaged driver support and other parties reliant upon targeting specific ABI versions.
