Xbox To Reportedly Announce A "New Game In A Series" At Gamescom

We're still missing release dates for games that we know are launching this year, and Gamescom Opening Night Live is probably a good place to expect some more info. Of course, Gamescom ONL will have some new announcements too, and according to one insider, Xbox is preparing to show up to announce a sequel to an existing franchise. This is according to reliable insider Nate the Hate, who claimed in a recent tweet (thanks Insider Gaming) that Xbox is gearing up to announce a "new game in a series", potentially at Gamescom 2026. While he wasn't particularly forthcoming with details, he did shoot down the hopes of Banjo-Kazooie fans, and teased that the announcement has his "interest and curiosity piqued." Nate the Hate seems fairly confident that this announcement will take place at Gamescom, though he's working to see if the game will definitely be there. I imagine he'd want to be more certain about plans following the whole Star Fox remake saga, with Nintendo reportedly delaying announcements to deliberately mess with him. That being said, we can now only really guess as to what this announcement may be. Nate reveals that it's from a franchise that Microsoft owns, but isn't being developed by one of its own studios. That rules out a lot of games, and games like Blade and Hideo Kojima's OD since they're not new games in established franchises. We also know that a new Spyro is being worked on by Toys For Bob. It's possible Microsoft could have made an arrangement with one of the studios it recently had go independent, like Double Fine. A Psychonauts 3 or Brutal Legend 2 would go pretty hard, while it's also possible this could be a third Ori game. Those are just my guesses though, and we'll have to wait until Gamescom itself to see if Xbox does actually show up with this mystery sequel.
