The most positive update so far is that it seems to work on delisted games. Disc-To-Digital Provides A Way To Obtain Digital Licenses For Delisted Games Xbox hasn’t provided an exhaustive list of which games are disc-to-digital compatible; however, it claims thousands of titles released on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S are good to go. Insiders are doing their own research to figure out what works and what doesn’t, and it turns out delisted games aren’t necessarily omitted, despite fears that might be the case. Nicholas Maguire appears to have been the first to highlight that, even though you can no longer buy digital copies of certain games on Xbox, digital licenses for those games can now be unlocked thanks to the new feature. They shared a screenshot of Deadpool, which was delisted almost nine years ago, sitting in their digital library after they inserted the disc into their console and went through the process of obtaining a digital license for the game. This is the Xbox One version of Deadpool that was released later, not the original Xbox 360 version. Which Deslisted Games Are Compatible? Those with access to the disc-to-digital program are now testing as many games as they can to see which delisted games are compatible and which ones are not. The same account that revealed Deadpool works has also replied to someone asking about Transformers: Devastation, confirming it has already been tested and also works. According to VGC, other delisted games Insiders have already managed to obtain digital licenses for using this new system include Rock Band 4, Titanfall, and Minecraft: Story Mode. It has sparked hopes that, eventually, disc-to-digital might be rolled out to Xbox 360 games, and even titles released on the original Xbox. However, that seems unlikely, maybe even impossible. Also noted by Maguire, Xbox One and Series X|S discs include a “unique identifier”. It’s this identifier that makes disc-to-digital possible. Original Xbox and Xbox 360 games don’t have this identifier, which means that unless Xbox figures out a different way to let you obtain digital licenses for those games, any physical copies you own will never be able to become digital ones.
