The new Blues boss is prepared to be doing deals up until the final day of the window, having already spent £226million on new signings this summer. However, Alonso has told those who reached the final stages of the tournament that they must be ready for the Premier League curtain-raiser on August 24. Despite their big outlay, Alonso refused to rule out new additions, while a number of sales are expected as the Blues trim their squad. He said: “We have to be ready. The market is open for a few weeks. “We need to be aware of different positions, different situations, so for sure, we have a plan, an idea, and we need to assess in the right moments. “We can’t say what’s going to happen but some things might happen. “We need to know that probably there will still be some movements. We need to be flexible and quick to act. Probably it will change until the last day of the market being open. “We want to build a competitive team. We are in that process. We have great quality, great talent, and we need to know what it takes to compete in the Premier League. “We want a squad with the right balance between quality and mentality.” Chelsea have expressed an interest in free agent John Stones, while they remain in talks with Rayo Vallecano over full-back Pep Chavarria. Rogers, along with £52m signing Maxence Lacroix, Reece Jame and Enzo Fernandez, all reached the last four of the World Cup and will be the last to report for pre-season training. But Alonso is not planning to rest them for the opening games of the season. He added: “All the ones who come later because they reached the final stages of the World Cup, they will be ready. We have a few of them so they have to be ready.” Chelsea play their first official game of pre-season, following two behind-closed-doors friendlies, against Western Sydney Wanderers on Tuesday, offering a first glimpse at the Blues under Alonso. Alonso added: “We need to compete. We need to have good energy. We need to run. We need to work hard. “We need to have the sacrifices which are compulsory and mandatory in each Premier League game. “To win each game, it’s tough. We need to prepare for that and we are using this time. We will see in the first game.” Comment now
