X-Men Movie Casts Samara Weaving as the MCU's Emma Frost

Marvel Studios has reportedly cast Ready or Not star Samara Weaving as Emma Frost for its upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) X-Men movie.Details on the latest mutant to join the MCU were shared by Deadline, marking one of the first names to officially join its new X-Men project as the team comes together. Director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige were said to have met with "a number of candidates" before deciding Weaving would be their Emma Frost earlier this week.Additional details regarding the cast of the X-Men have yet to be revealed. However, the report also stated that Schreier and Marvel have been busy looking for actors to fit the part for "a number of roles," with Deadline author Justin Kroll clarifying on X/Twitter that auditions have been happening since May. She first debuted in '80s and is primarily known as a telepath with the ability to take on a nearly indestructible diamond form. It's unclear if this new incarnation will see the character take on a villain role or join the X-Men team as a hero.Emma Frost has appeared in live-action projects before, with notable entries including X-Men: First Class and Days of Future Past, where she was played by January Jones. Gaming fans will also remember that she joined the Marvel Rivals roster as a Vanguard with Season 2 in April 2025.Weaving, meanwhile, has been working in Hollywood for years. Horror fans will recognize her from her roles in projects like Ash vs Evil Dead, Ready or Not, or even her small role in Scream 6, but she also played a part in 2017's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. She most recently appeared in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come in March and Over Your Dead Body in April.It's been a wild few weeks for Marvel and its MCU. At San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2026, the comic book movie company took over Hall H once again for another news-filled panel. Highlights from that presentation include David Jonsson as the next Black Panther, Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider, and more Avengers: Doomsday updates, leaving fans cautiously optimistic for the future as Feige came and went yet again without delivering any X-Men updates. Now, it seems the wait for news on that front may finally rearing its head.Still, so much about the new X-Men movie remains a mystery. Without a firm release date, rumors of casting updates for the film have swirled for weeks following Feige's promise that the X-Men characters would be recast for the new film. Marvel Studios is said to be looking for younger talent in an effort to "keep the cost down" as it prepares for a post-Secret Wars universe.The MCU is charging forward not only with casting updates but new movies, too. Today marks the release of its latest project: Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film is already on track for a massively successful box office opening weekend, especially after its initial previews brought in a staggering $72 million.Avengers: Doomsday will then bring the original X-Men back to theaters this December, with Avengers: Secret Wars set to follow as the only MCU movie in 2027 next December.
