The Season 9.5 roadmap for Marvel Rivals was revealed at the beginning of August and included mysterious X-Men '97 cosmetics arriving on Sept. 4. Developer NetEase Games kept the exact nature of the crossover under wraps for weeks. With only a few hours until the mystery cosmetics release, NetEase has finally revealed what fans can expect, and it's worth the wait. The official Marvel Rivals X account posted a short video today revealing that the X-Men '97 Season 2 crossover will add two new skins. Fittingly, the pair of skins, inspired by the Disney Plus animated series, will be for everybody's favorite mutant couple: Rogue and Gambit. Gambit's skin will be based on his finale appearance in the show, when he is — spoiler alert! — possessed by Apocalypse. It merges design aspects of the iconic X-Men villain, like the blue face markings, with Gambit's previous Horseman look. Rogue will receive her Celestial outfit from the Season 2 finale. When do the X-Men '97 crossover skins release in Marvel Rivals? As previously revealed in the Season 9.5 roadmap, both crossover skins will be released on Sept. 4 at 2 a.m. UTC. That means if you are in the United States, the skins will be made available at 7 p.m. PDT or 10 p.m. EDT on Sept. 3. The official announcement for the new costumes does not reveal what rarity tier they will be in. The initial reaction to the X-Men '97-themed skins from fans has not been too great. Gambit's skin is particularly ridiculed as it appears too similar to the Dead Man's Hand costume released earlier this season. Many fans find Rogue's skin a little boring. A common refrain with regard to both, however, is that neither of these outfits represents the best of X-Men '97 Season 2's offerings. Some fans prefer the X-Factor and New X-Men–inspired looks for Jean and Scott, or Storm's future timeline look, as better options. Maybe Season 3 of X-Men '97 will bring better skins when it releases.
