X-Files Fans, Don't Miss This Sequel Coming In 2028

Fans of The X-Files will want to mark their calendars for 2028, as a new game sequel has just been announced. No, Mulder and Scully aren't making a triumphant return via video games. But with the franchise set for a reboot in both video and comic form, this is a great time for a supernatural investigation video game to announce its sequel. The X-Files, if you're somehow not aware, follows two FBI agents who investigate strange cases with potentially supernatural and out-of-this-world causes. The recently announced game sequel has a similar premise, and promises some excellent writing full of silliness, drama, mystery, and an inevitable touch of the paranormal. The game was announced on the Grumpy Gamer blog: From the makers of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion, comes Thimbleweed Park 2, scheduled for an early 2028 release. The first Thimbleweed Park was created by Terrible Toybox, led by Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick following a successful Kickstarter campaign. The game played out like a classic point-and-click adventure that allowed players to switch between five characters: two FBI agents, a young woman, a clown, and a ghost. When two agents get called to a small town to investigate a mysterious murder in 1987, they uncover far stranger things happening under the seemingly quiet town's surface. And now, over 10 years later, the sequel is set to continue the shenanigans. Not much has been revealed yet, but you can expect the same fun writing and storytelling that we've come to expect from Gilbert and Winnick. The second game is touted as not being quite a prequel or a sequel, but rather "more Thimbleweed Park and just as weird." In the second game, a new murder calls the two FBI agents back to the titular small town... or so it seems. Nothing and no one can be trusted, and everyone's a suspect. Some teaser images on the Steam page show that some familiar faces will be making an appearance in the upcoming title. And as usual, the dead body is just the tip of the strange iceberg in this bizarre town. Thimbleweed Park 2 is now available to wishlist on Steam, and a Switch version has been confirmed.
