Wyndham Is Giving Members Free Hotel Status Upgrades—Some Can Claim 3,000 Points Instead

Wyndham Rewards is giving members free status upgrades through the end of the year, and some existing Diamond members can claim free 3,000 points. You have to register, and the gift depends on your current status, where you live, and whether you’re already enrolled in Wyndham’s Insider subscription. I don’t get excited about Wyndham status, but free status and free points are good things. If you don’t have hotel status today, having something could be an avenue to match somewhere else. So it could be worth a couple of clicks, even more so if you have a Wyndham stay coming up. What You Can Claim Wyndham’s holiday offer works like this: Your Current Membership Your Holiday Offer Blue Gold status Gold Platinum status Platinum Diamond status Diamond, U.S. resident, not already an Insider Two complimentary months of Wyndham Rewards Insider Diamond, U.S. resident, already an Insider 3,000 bonus points, subject to eligibility Diamond, outside the U.S. 3,000 bonus points, subject to eligibility Claim the status upgrade by December 30, 2026. It lasts through December 31, 2026, and Wyndham says to allow 24–48 hours for it to take effect. (Do it on December 30 and it may activate and expire simultaneously – yay!) New members can join and claim Gold. Note that you can’t use the promotional status to match to Caesars Rewards. The upgraded earning rate is determined by your status at checkout. A stay ending January 1 won’t earn the holiday status bonus. What The Higher Status Gets You Wyndham normally requires 5 qualifying nights for Gold, 15 for Platinum, and 40 for Diamond. The benefits are modest: Blue to Gold: A 10% bonus on base points, preferred room choice, a priority member services line, and late checkout. Gold to Platinum: Early check-in, a larger 15% points bonus, and an available car category upgrade on eligible Alamo, Enterprise and National airport rentals in the U.S. and Canada. Platinum to Diamond: A 20% points bonus, suite upgrades when available, and a snack or beverage amenity at participating brands. Diamond also offers the ability to gift Gold to one person each calendar year. Preferred room choice means a better location or view within the room category you booked. Early check-in and late checkout are subject to availability, generally up to two hours before or after the hotel’s stated time. Diamond suite upgrades depend on availability at check-in. As I explained when I looked at Wyndham’s instructions to hotels, you should ask for the preferred room and checkout benefits. And there’s no program-wide elite breakfast or lounge benefit. At a hotel earning the usual 10 base points per dollar, moving from Platinum to Diamond adds just 50 points on $100 of eligible spending. That’s 35 cents at a valuation of 0.7 cents per point. 3,000 Free Points For (Some) Diamonds Eligible Diamonds need to claim their 3,000 points by December 31, 2026. Members who become Diamond through this holiday upgrade don’t qualify for the points gift. Neither do members with a competitor status match unless they’ve completed the required 10 qualifying nights within 90 days of receiving that matched status. Wyndham’s messaging on this says 3,000 points are enough for a discounted night at any participating hotel. That doesn’t actually match their current award chart. Following the September 15 devaluation, standard free nights cost 5,000, 15,000, 30,000 or 45,000 points per bedroom. The points plus cash price at a 45,000-point hotel starts at 4,500 points plus the cash portion. Ultimately Wyndham has lost much of what made it interesting to me: Vacasa redemptions are gone, the easy credit card route to Caesars Diamond ended, and the top award price rose 50%. Insider Is A Weak Subscription Wyndham Rewards Insider normally costs $95 per year and automatically renews. It offers hotel discounts, extra points, and access to deals on flights, cruises, rental cars, activities and entertainment, along with a concierge. The paid offer now provides Platinum status and 7,500 points when a new subscriber joins, plus 7,500 points with each renewal. There’s no status benefit for someone who’s already Diamond. The advertised 50% increase in earning applies to the elite bonus. A Diamond’s bonus rises from 20% to 30%, so ordinary earning at a 10-point-per-dollar hotel goes from 12 to 13 points per dollar or 8.3% more points. And the hotel discount isn’t a promise of the lowest price. Wyndham acknowledges that another rate available to non-Insiders can be cheaper. Buying Platinum could make sense for someone who isn’t, can’t status match, but still plans a bunch of Wyndham stays upcoming. Register Separately For The 4X Points Offer The holiday upgrade can be combined with Wyndham’s current 4X points promotion. Register before booking, book direct by January 15, 2027, and complete eligible paid stays by January 19. The holiday status itself ends December 31. The multiplier applies to base points, with a cap of 15,000 promotional bonus points. At the normal 10-point base rate, a non-Insider Diamond earns 40 points per dollar from the base earning and promotion, plus 2 elite bonus points (not four times their usual 12). Insiders can earn another 5,000 points after two qualifying nights, either together or across two stays. That bonus doesn’t stack with the separate Wyndham cardholder bonus. Premier cardholders can earn 10,000 instead. For an upcoming stay, claim your status first and register for the points promotion before making the reservation since a booking made before promotion registration doesn’t qualify.
