West Virginia has continued to add to its roster through the transfer portal, this time landing a commitment from Queens University of Charlotte two-way player Ryan Brown. Brown, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound sophomore from Ashland, Kentucky, arrives in Morgantown after spending his freshman season with the Royals, where he made an impact both on the mound and at the plate. The former Boyd County standout entered college with plenty of expectations and was named D1Baseball’s Preseason ASUN Freshman of the Year ahead of the 2025 season. In 2025, Brown appeared in 20 games as a pitcher, including seven starts, and logged 59.1 innings with a 5.61 ERA. He struck out 45 batters while recording a pair of saves and finished with a 1-4 record. His contributions were not limited to the mound. Brown also emerged as one of Queens’ top two-way options, collecting 26 hits in 90 at-bats while batting .289 with three doubles, three home runs and nine RBIs. His performance earned him a spot on the ASUN All-Freshman Team. When Brown signed with Queens out of high school, Royals head coach Jake Hendrick praised his competitiveness and highlighted a three-pitch arsenal that featured a fastball in the low 90s. Brown did not record any statistics during the 2026 season, although the reason for his absence has not been officially confirmed. Now, Brown will bring his versatility to a West Virginia program that continues to reshape its roster ahead of the 2027 season. Whether as a pitcher, position player or both, the Kentucky native gives the Mountaineers another intriguing option with multiple years of eligibility remaining.
