Wrexham close in on Premier League star in £5million transfer as Ryan Reynolds backs fresh promotion push

A deal worth £5million is being finalised for the full-back, who spent last season on loan with West Brom. Wrexham made their move after it became clear Imray does not feature in new Palace chief Pierre Sage’s plans. The defender was excluded from the Premier League side’s travelling squad for the Como Cup to allow him to complete the transfer. Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson, who has let the likes of club legend Paul Mullin head through the exit door, recently confirmed he was desperate to get the deal for Imray over the line. He said: “Danny’s a player we’ve been looking at very closely. It’s not done yet, but hopefully it will be.” Wrexham are eyeing a first-ever season in the Premier League after their sensational rise since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s takeover. And Reynolds, 49, revealed Wrexham went into the transfer window with a different strategy. He said: “Last year, we arrived in the Championship and had a few months to build an entire Championship roster. “Phil, Michael [Williamson] and Shaun [Harvey] did a great job, and we came up just short of the play-offs. “This is a different brief this season. Like a home renovation show, this episode is about making the kitchen work better rather than doing a whole-house renovation.” Wrexham’s season gets underway with a tough-looking trip to Middlesbrough in the first round of the Carabao Cup next week.
