Second quarter 2026 net income at W.R. Berkley Corp. increased about 12.7% compared to the same period a year ago to about $452.3 million. Operating income for the second quarter was $497.1 million, up from $420.5 million during the same time in 2025. The Q2 consolidated combined ratio at the Greenwich, Connecticut-based commercial insurer was 90.0—an improvement from 91.6 a year ago. W.R. Berkley’s insurance segment combined ratio for the period was 91.4 from 92.1 in Q2 2025.The reinsurance and monoline excess segment saw a decrease to 79.3 compared with 87.4. Underwriting income grew 21.8% to $317.5 million pretax, compared with Q2 2025. “We continue to see attractive opportunities across select liability lines,” said chairman, president and CEO W. Total accident year catastrophe losses for Q2 2026 were about $62.4 million compared with about $99.2 million during Q2 2025. During Q2 net investment income grew 10.4% to a record $418.7 million.
