‘World’s most beautiful footballer’ joins fifth club in two years after horror injury derailed career

ANA MARKOVIC has joined her fifth football club in two years after a major injury derailed her career. The forward, who was named the world’s most beautiful footballer, put pen to paper on a deal with Hajduk Split in a bid to strengthen the Croatian team’s attack ahead of a title defence. But Markovic, who will wear the No23 shirt after arriving at the Poljud Stadium, has become something of a footballing globetrotter in recent years. In March 2023, Markovic was playing for Grasshopper in a match against FC Zurich, but suffered a trio of career-changing injury. Markovic suffered a severe torn ACL, torn meniscus and a broken lower leg in the match. She underwent a lengthy surgical recovery and rehabilitation which she documented on her social media pages, including Instagram, where she has 2.7 million followers. Since then, she has played for Braga, Damaiense, and Brooklyn FC alongside her sister, Kiki, before the move to Hajduk. However, she has struggled to recapture her best form, having not scored since 2023 for Grasshopper, which has led to her going from club to club. I cried for four days straight,” while also fuming about the state of the pitch that day. Markovic will be hoping to finally settle down back in her homeland, having captioned a post of herself in training: “New chapter.” She previously went viral for a training clip with Cristiano Ronaldo in 2024. Meanwhile, she is also a former international team-mate of fellow football beauty, Alisha Lehmann. Earlier this summer, she kicked her boyfriend out of their bed during a World Cup clash as Croatia faced Portugal.
