AI can predict promising new materials, but those predictions still need to survive contact with the real world. ATLANT 3D is addressing that gap with a fabrication system designed to make and test materials at the atomic scale. The Danish technology company has launched NANOFABRICATOR® PRO, a semiconductor manufacturing platform built around its Direct Atomic Layer Processing technology. The system brings computational materials research closer to the physical testing needed to determine whether those predictions actually work. Physical fabrication AI has become increasingly useful for predicting materials with specific properties, but producing those materials presents a separate engineering challenge. Researchers still need to fabricate candidates under controlled conditions before they can determine whether a model accurately predicted their behavior. NANOFABRICATOR® PRO targets that stage with atomic-scale processing capabilities. ATLANT 3D says its approach can help connect computational predictions with physical experiments without separating those steps into entirely different workflows. ATLANT 3D CEO Maksym Plakhotnyuk said the platform focuses on closing that gap between discovery and practical testing. “AI is fundamentally changing how new materials are discovered. The next frontier is turning those discoveries into real-world innovations,” Plakhotnyuk said. The company also plans to incorporate integrated metrology as it develops more autonomous capabilities. Measurements collected during fabrication could give future systems additional information about how materials are forming. That feedback could allow automated equipment to adjust later processing steps using measurements from the fabrication process itself. Such an approach could make experimental validation less dependent on separate testing cycles. ATLANT 3D is targeting semiconductor manufacturing, advanced packaging and quantum technologies. Each area places demanding requirements on material properties, interfaces and fabrication precision. Built for U.S. fabs NANOFABRICATOR® PRO is also being prepared for industrial semiconductor environments, with ATLANT 3D describing the platform as SEMI-compliant. The company is manufacturing the system in the United States through its partnership with Automated Industrial Robotics. That gives ATLANT 3D a domestic production route as it expands its U.S. operations. It also places manufacturing of the platform closer to the semiconductor industry it hopes to serve. Semiconductor development increasingly depends on specialized equipment for working with new materials. A fabrication system aimed at atomic-level processing could therefore serve both research environments and advanced manufacturing applications. AIR President Bob Fung said the partnership brings together engineering expertise and U.S. manufacturing capabilities. “Our partnership combines advanced engineering with U.S. manufacturing capabilities to deliver NANOFABRICATOR® PRO platform to enable next frontiers for future industries,” Fung said. Toward autonomous materials ATLANT 3D’s longer-term plan goes beyond operating NANOFABRICATOR® PRO as a conventional fabrication system. The company wants to add more automation, integrated metrology and additional processing capabilities. Its proposed A-HUB Autonomous Materials Foundry would build around that approach. AI could identify promising candidates, with the physical system then providing experimental data that informs subsequent research. The resulting feedback loop could bring computational materials research closer to physical experimentation. Researchers would have a faster way to compare predictions with what actually happens during fabrication. ATLANT 3D calls this broader concept Physical AI Infrastructure for Matter.
