After months of speculation and rumors, World of Warcraft has finally given the official announcement that World of Warcraft: Forever is coming, and we don't even have long to wait. Previously known by fans in the community as "Classic Plus," the game brings an all-new way to play, blending the Classic experience with all-new zones and experiences, so everyone can enjoy Azeroth forever. Announced at BlizzCon 2026, World of Warcraft: Forever promises to build on the "core principles of Classic" while focusing on the world of Azeroth as a main character and making the journey matter more than the destination. This means there will be a bit more of an emphasis on encouraging players to slow down rather than just rush to the endgame. Particularly since once players reach level 60, that's where they will remain "indefinitely." World Of Warcraft: Forever Release Date, Early Access And Beta World of Warcraft: Forever will release on November 4, 2026. A Beta period for the game will start this Thursday, September 17, 2026, which you can request access to through Blizzard's website here. The Beta will be available through October 21, 2026, but you will need to purchase either the "Skyborne Epic Pack" or the "Warcraft Forever Collection" editions in order to enter Beta, as discussed below under "Special Editions Available." There is no Early Access to the full live game prior to the November 4 release, only this Beta period. World of Warcraft: Forever will release on November 4, 2026 Any purchase of an edition of the game will give you WoW: Forever Early Name Reservation starting on October 27, which will allow you to claim the names you want. Character names are limited to a first-come, first-served basis, although with WoW: Forever offering players a first and last name, it's at least a little more likely you could get close to what you're hoping for. What Is World Of Warcraft: Forever? As the somewhat ominous-sounding name implies, this version of World of Warcraft is designed to act as a permanent, evergreen version of the classic World of Warcraft experience. It is being crafted in a way that allows Blizzard to expand on it within this framework rather than progressing the story again and again through traditional expansions. This is not simply an extra version of Classic, or an expansion to retail WoW. This is something new and separate. It is an endless adventure that will add new quests, zones, dungeons, and raids within the original world, with continuous updates to keep things fresh and interesting. Essentially, we can think of it as an alternate universe. Skyborne Race And New Zones Freshen Things Up Among the enhancements and changes that WoW: Forever is adding are the new Skyborne race that can join either the Alliance or Horde. This new race of "windswept elves" can play as Warriors, Hunters, Rogues, and Druids, and have special new Druid forms never seen before. Alternatively, Horde players can create a Shaman Skyborne, and Alliance players can choose instead to have a Mage Skyborne. There are also three new zones opening up for World of Warcraft: Forever players to experience. These are locations that hold new stories for players and suggest that this is one of the ways that the game will continue to evolve without the need for future expansions. Zephras Isle A floating island oasis in the sky, this is the home to the Skyborne race. Riverglades A landscape in the Eastern Kingdoms with lush hillsides and ruined keeps. Mount Hyjal The slopes of the mountain that we previously could not access. Additionally, it sounds as though many of the zones we know and love may be updated and overhauled, including adding dungeons and more. This is said to be a way to fill in the blank spaces of the Vanilla map and give new content in existing areas. What To Expect From Gameplay For WoW: Forever WoW: Forever is, of course, a love letter to the original experience of World of Warcraft, but it also is much more than that. In a way, you can think of this as Classic 2.0. The game will incorporate much of the feedback and ideas from the community over the years and build upon everything we love about the Classic experience. Developers learned a lot from their experiments with Season of Discovery and will likely incorporate much of that in this new game version. There are also over 1,000 new quests, nine new dungeons, a new battleground, two new raids, and more being added to the game. While some may appreciate the traditional 2004 graphics, World of Warcraft: Forever allows players to optionally toggle on upgraded visuals. These improvements make the water, lighting, and more feel smoother and more immersive, while still staying true to the familiar look that World of Warcraft has always had. Additionally, you can toggle between SD and HD character models. Special Editions Available, But Do You Have To Purchase World Of Warcraft: Forever? Just like WoW: Classic, as long as you have an active game subscription for World of Warcraft, you will be able to access World of Warcraft: Forever at no additional charge. However, you won't have access to the new Skyborne race unless you purchase one of the bundles.
