World Cup sell-off on agenda for Oceania Football

New Zealand Football is not backing FIFA's World Cup sell-off plans.FIFA president Gianni Infantino has put forward a proposal to sell stakes in the Swiss non-profit's events and competitions arm to corporate investors.The move would see a commercial subsidiary - FIFA Forward Enterprise - grant private buyers control over competitions, including the World Cup and Club World Cup.The proposal has sparked global condemnation from international organising confederations, with UEFA and its 55 member nations threatening a complete boycott of all FIFA competitions.In a statement, New Zealand Football said the proposal lacked the independent governance, legal and financial assessment required to enable any robust evaluation of the matter."'The FIFA World Cup, FIFA Women's World Cup and other FIFA tournaments are the pinnacle of the global game, something everyone across football has a responsibility to respect and protect," it said."'New Zealand Football has questions and concerns regarding both the proposal itself and the process by which it has been developed and presented.''We will be raising these concerns directly with FIFA and stating we cannot support this proposal.''The Oceania Football Confederation will meet later this month to discuss the plans."'OFC invites its member associations to review the proposal and participate in the consultation process," a statement from the organisation said."OFC remains committed to engaging constructively with its member associations, FIFA, fellow confederations and other football stakeholders throughout the consultation process and in support of the continued development of football across Oceania and globally."'
