Operations are continuing and Teck said it has contingency plans in place to maintain safety and environmental management during any labour action, and remains committed to reaching an agreement. It’s the latest sign of labour tensions with near-record prices emboldening employees to seek a greater share of profits as global supply is squeezed by operational setbacks. In top supplier, Chile, recent labour disputes have included a 10-day strike at Antofagasta PLC’s Centinela and an eleventh-hour deal to avert a walkout at BHP Group’s Escondida.Highland Valley, which Teck expects to produce 115,000 to 135,000 metric tonnes this year, is an important North American supplier but considerably smaller than top-tier mines like Escondida or Grasberg in Indonesia. This advertisement has not loaded yet.Notice for the Postmedia NetworkThis website uses cookies to personalize your content (including ads), and allows us to analyze our traffic.
