Work on new swimming pools at Coimbatore’s VOC Park picks up pace

PERIASAMY Construction of the two new swimming pools at VOC Park in Coimbatore city has picked up pace.The Coimbatore Corporation is constructing an international-standard pool under the Namakku Naame Thittam at an estimated cost of ₹4.34 crore. The 50-metre by 25-metre pool will have 10 lanes, each 2.5 metres wide, with depth ranging from four to 10 feet.The facility is being developed to support training and competitions for sportspersons and students. It will include a water treatment plant; five 10-HP motors; 16 lights; and separate changing rooms and lockers, baths and toilets for men and women.Work is also progressing on the public swimming pool, estimated to cost ₹3.44 crore. Of this, ₹2.32 crore is being met from the Corporation’s general funds and ₹1.12 crore from the Member of Parliament’s funds.The 25-metre by 13.5-metre pool will have five lanes, with depth ranging from four to six feet. Its water treatment system will facilitate complete circulation of the water every four to six hours. Three 5-HP motors; 10 lights; and separate changing rooms and lockers, baths and toilets for men and women are also part of the project.Corporation officials said more than 50% of the work on the two pools has been completed, and the projects were expected to be completed within three months.
