Woman burned with boiling water for opposing to marry elderly man for Rs 3 lakh

A Faridabad woman has claimed that she was scalded and locked in a room after resisting a marriage deal. Police say they will record her statement at hospital before taking further action.Police are investigating the allegations and examining the circumstances surrounding the woman's injuries. (Credits: Sachin Gaur)A 23-year-old woman in Faridabad's Kureshipur village has claimed that she was burned with boiling water and confined to a room for several days after she objected to being sold for Rs 3 lakh to marry an elderly man.The woman is currently undergoing treatment at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital after suffering severe burn injuries. According to her family, the injuries affected her chest and private parts.The incident reportedly took place around 4 am on August 16. The woman said that Dharmendra, a neighbour who lives opposite her house in Kureshipur, and a woman named Lalita poured boiling water on her after she objected to their plan to arrange her marriage with an elderly man in exchange for Rs 3 lakh.According to the woman's uncle Pankaj, she had married a Kureshipur resident named Rohit around two years ago. She originally belongs to Tikka Tola Sahapur in Bihar, and the marriage had been arranged by her maternal grandparents. Her husband works at a private company, Pankaj said. UNCLE CLAIMS OCCULT PRACTICESPankaj said Dharmendra and Lalita lived opposite the woman's house and frequently visited each other's homes because they were neighbours. He claimed that Lalita used occult practices to gain control over the woman. He also claimed that Dharmendra and Lalita lived together as a couple, although they were not legally married.According to Pankaj, the two had taken the woman into their care around two months ago, telling her that they would treat her like their daughter and eventually arrange her marriage. The woman subsequently divorced her husband around two months ago. She has also mentioned that Dharmendra and Lalita were responsible for her divorce. The woman further said that after living with the couple for around two months, she learnt that they were planning to marry her off to an elderly man for Rs 3 lakh. She said she opposed the arrangement, following which disputes began.She said that Dharmendra and Lalita poured boiling water on her around 4 am on August 16, causing severe burns to her chest and private parts. She further claimed that they prevented her from leaving the house for treatment, locked her inside a room and kept her mobile phone.UNCLE ARRIVES WITH POLICEPankaj said he was informed about the incident by his sister, who lives nearby. He reached Kureshipur on the evening of August 18 but claimed that nobody opened the door.On August 19, he returned with police officers. With police assistance, the lock was broken and the woman was rescued from the room. She was taken to Badshah Khan Civil Hospital in Faridabad, where she received initial treatment before being referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.She is currently admitted to the intensive care unit, according to her family.Police spokesperson Yashpal said authorities had received information about the case. He said a police team would visit the woman at the Delhi hospital to record her statement.
