Woman, boyfriend kill elderly Delhi man during robbery at home, flee with valuables

A 60-year-old man was strangled at his home in Delhi during a robbery, with the accused fleeing with cash and jewellery, police said on Wednesday. Police have arrested four people, including a woman who is a relative of the victim and her boyfriend, who plotted the robbery and murder.The incident took place on Tuesday in northwest Delhi’s Rohini Sector-3. The victim, identified as Rakesh Khanna, had recently sold his flat and was in possession of the money, police said. Simran, a relative of Khanna, knew about the sale and conspired with her boyfriend, who runs a gym, to rob and kill him.Simran had a duplicate key made for Khanna’s home and used it to open the flat, allowing her boyfriend and two aides to enter. Khanna was alone at home at the time, as his wife had gone to the market.The accused strangled Khanna during the robbery before fleeing with cash and jewellery, police said. Rohini District DCP Shashank Jaiswal said police received a call around 7:30 pm on Tuesday that a man was unconscious and had been taken to hospital by his wife, while the house was found in a state of disarray. Police reached the spot and immediately began investigating.Household articles were found strewn across the victim's home, police said. Jaiswal said the accused were familiar with Khanna and his home, which helped them execute the crime. The Rohini police team cracked the case within two-and-a-half hours, using CCTV footage and other leads to identify the accused.
