Wolves fans’ fury as woke club bosses ban iconic pre-match anthem played for DECADES over the F-word

WOLVES fans hit out yesterday after club bosses banned their favourite pre-match anthem because it encourages swearing. The Liquidator by Harry J Allstars had been played for decades at the Championship side’s Molineux Stadium. Supporter John Millar, 69, said: “The fans are furious. They’re passionate and this obviously won’t stop swearing at games. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! “It’s made worse by the fact West Brom still play The Liquidator and swear at us, and are now laughing at us for being so woke. “The song hasn’t been played before games for a while but I’d support a campaign to bring it back. It has always been part of our tradition and fires us up. Fellow Wolves fan Ryan Gill said: “It’s utter woke nonsense and we’ve missed an open goal. “I’m not sure how telling another club to f*** off is discriminating but that’s today’s world we live in . . . soft as s**t.” Ryan’s brother Joe said: “The one chance they get to bring the whole stadium together and fans back on side and they’ve fumbled it.” Supporter Rob Morris added: “It makes the higher-ups at Molineux look weak and unwilling to listen to the fans, which is nothing new with this current ownership”. Most read in Sport Wolves executive chairman Nathan Shi, appointed by Chinese owners Fosun, said: “I respect what The Liquidator means to many Wolves supporters. “But we also have a responsibility to make decisions based on where the club is today and the standards we expect around our matchday environment.” The Liquidator will be played at West Brom’s Hawthorns when the sides clash in February. Yesterday Twitter account The Albion Way mocked: “Fair play to Nathan for respecting our pre-game song. He knows there’s only one team worthy of using it round here.” Chelsea are believed to be the first club to play The Liquidator, a catchy reggae instrumental, in 1969. Comment now
