BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI//Getty Images4 min readYou may have missed it, but this past Saturday, August 1, 2026, two culturally significant events went down: 1) MTV celebrated the 45th anniversary of the day it launched on a handful of cable systems, and 2) the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) went live with Truth API, a new subscription service offering users early access to our President’s Truth Social posts. That’s right: for a low, low monthly fee, the President’s biggest fans can be among the very first to learn how he fared on the golf course, feast their eyes on the AI-generated image of him as a skinny version of ‘70s Elvis, or find out whether he’s about to tariff bananas or bomb Iran.In this case, his biggest fans are the institutional investors who can afford the $100,000 monthly fee, or $60,000 if they commit to a multi-year contract, to use the service. What they will do with that information is shift huge sums of money around the stock market to capitalize on its fluctuations related to the announcement they just got milliseconds before anyone else. Everyone profiting from this—including Trump and family—are hoping you are too distracted or too fatigued by the onslaught of Big Stupid to care whether the president should be selling early access to his brain farts.“The markets already move on Truth Social posts,” interim TMTG boss Kevin McGurn said in a launch-day press release. Truth API offers “a direct, licensed, real-time feed of the platform’s most market-moving Truths, while advancing our strategy to monetize proprietary assets through a high-margin, recurring revenue system.”It’s all such beautifully executed business-bro-speak for “We’re going to get rich off the chaos” that it’s nearly impossible to choose a favorite word or phrase. “Licensed” is a strong contender, but “high-margin, recurring revenue system” is a legitimate scream. The president’s bullshit costs nothing to produce, and he’s churning it out constantly, so yes, it leads to a solid profit margin. Ultimately, though, I think the winner is “interim.” Nothing is permanent in Trump’s world, as Jeanine Pirro seems to be learning right now in a direct, licensed, real-time manner.Global markets rise and fall based on what the president posts on Truth Social. In June, Esquire published an interview with a North Dakota farmer, who said he watches the price of soybeans shift (usually down) based on Trump’s social feed. According to The Wall Street Journal, some trading firms have already built automated systems that act on the president’s posts the nanosecond they publish. Trump, of course, never misses an opportunity to profit from his job as public servant—just as the Founders intended!—which is why he’s already hauled in more than $2 billion in his second term. What’s most shocking about Truth API is that it took him so long to think of it.Listen, I am no expert, but this all seems extremely sketchy and possibly illegal. Truth Social has said the new feature is not insider trading because the information was going to be public anyway. What’s not said is: Who’s going to investigate us anyways?Oh, the Democrats!Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff have asked the Securities and Exchange Commission to look into this. Which is a cute idea. If only the Democrats lived in the real world. From this Democratic Party we can expect Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to go on X and say, “The Odyssey? More like America Oughta See Donald Trump’s tax returns!” and that will be that. It’s worth noting that all of this centers around a social-media platform called “Truth,” when the guy behind it is so utterly allergic to honesty that he’ll lie about his height, weight, and golf score while all of this is happening. It’s also worth noting that as I type this, the Senate Judiciary Committee has advanced the nomination of Trump’s personal lawyer Todd Blanche to head of the Department of Justice, when his definition of justice means “giving January 6 rioters a payout, and taking it from your taxes.” Words have no meaning, rules even less.I mean, come on. At least MTV still has the Video Music Awards. But whether this is illegal shouldn’t matter because you and I and everyone else knows this is a festering symbol of America right now. People with access to capital will get richer, so will the president. Everyone else is left worrying about how they’ll fill their gas tank, pay for medical care, or eat a salad without their ass exploding. I don’t know how much more stupid it’s all going to get, but I know for sure we’re going to find out.
With Truth API, Everyone Gets Rich! (Except You.)
