Wine 11.14 Brings WoW64 Mode To FreeBSD, Icon Support In Start Menu

Wine 11.14 was tagged today as the newest bi-weekly development release of this open-source software for running Windows games and applications on Linux, macOS, and other platforms. We continue inching closer toward Wine 12.0 stable that will be out in January 2027 while out today is Wine 11.14 with the leading-edge feature work. WoW64 mode has been working on Linux for a while as the means of getting 32-bit Windows software to run on a 64-bit Linux using purely 64-bit system libraries rather than relying on 32-bit multi-lib support. With Wine 11.14, there is initial WoW64 mode support on FreeBSD. Another notable addition with Wine 11.14 is now supporting icons in the Start Menu. This is for the Wine Explorer code to support displaying icons next to Start Menu items, as shown in the recent merge request by Andrea Faulds: Wine 11.4 also adds 7.1 format conversions in DirectSound, support for AES-GMAC algorithm in BCrypt, and various bug fixes. There are 21 known bug fixes over the past two weeks affecting apps like Adobe Reader to games like Heroes of the Storm and Age of Empires I and II.
