Will Stein didn’t go to bed until 2 AM after Kentucky’s win over Texas A&M

Will Stein was so jacked up on adrenaline that he couldn’t fall asleep until the middle of the night. Same, coach. Stein put his mark on the Kentucky football program in just his third game as head coach, leading the Wildcats into College Station against a top 10 SEC foe on Saturday and coming out with a dominant win. Kentucky whipped No. 9 Texas A&M in the third quarter en route to a season-changing 31-21 victory. It was a complete 180 from what we saw in the second half at Kroger Field last weekend against Alabama. Much like the rest of the Big Blue Nation, which saw UK students burning couches in typical BBN style, Stein was jacked up after the win. He was dropping F-Bombs left and right once the game clock hit all zeros. The postgame locker room scene was intense in the best way possible. The injection of energy after pulling off such a monumental upset lasted hours upon hours. “I have a lot of text messages to get back to right now. I didn’t get much sleep last night because I was so wired,” Stein told Peter Burns on ESPN Radio on Sunday morning. “I think I went to bed at about 2:00 a.m. Not for any reason, just wired after a game, the adrenaline rush of coaching in a game like that. It was an awesome day and I’m looking forward to this next week of attacking it and playing South Alabama at home.” Saturday’s game was a 2:30 p.m. local time kickoff. The team made their way back to Lexington that night. Stein couldn’t put head to pillow until over 12 hours later. As you might have guessed, he’s already rewatched the win. He probably didn’t get much shut-eye once he finally did hit the hay, either. Something tells me Stein was eager to wake up and hop on ESPN Radio to talk about his first big win as a head coach. “The atmosphere, the win, the celebration with our guys. Your blood’s just pumping, you know?” Stein said. “When you get home you try to decompress and relax. It’s just hard to turn that switch off. I think it’s just a combination of everything. Being at home with my wife, with watching the game on tape, with watching our highlights. I was fired up.” We all want Stein to be as well-rested as possible, but if losing some extra hours of sleep is the cost of beating top 10 teams on the road, he can start pulling all-nighters for all we care.
