Deadline reports that Smith's production company, Westbrook Studios, is developing a new TV show titled 215. The project draws from Smith’s early years and his ascent with DJ Jazzy Jeff as one of hip-hop’s earliest crossover acts. The story follows a sharp teenage rapper, the DJ who serves as his musical counterpart, and the friends who help keep the dream alive. Together, they pursue a record deal, financial success, and a path out while Philadelphia’s hip-hop scene begins to boom. Along the way, they navigate label meetings, loyalty to home, sudden fame, and the friendships that either keep them grounded or nearly fall apart. The news comes as Westbrook Studios is set to launch new television shows and movies with The Malar Group, founded by Sayan Navaratnam, with Malar funding the projects. 215 is the first title to begin the Westbrook and Malar partnership, albeit it is a continuation of a successful formula of Smith drawing from his own life, particularly his early life. Other examples include Fresh Prince, but also Bel-Air, which ran for four seasons on Peacock, and its upcoming Hillary-focused spinoff headlined by Coco Jones. More to come...
