Will Gamble Architects has designed an innovative "explicitly tropical" extension for a Grade-II listed English cottage in Northwood, blending traditional Sri Lankan architecture with the historic home's charm. The new design features a timber-framed glazed link and courtyard garden that merges old and new seamlessly. This project is significant as it merges cultural influences, showcasing how modern architecture can respect and incorporate traditional elements from different parts of the world. The result, named Muttram Veedu, highlights the potential for creative, culturally respectful design in historic preservation.
