(Photo: PTI)Union Minister Chirag Paswan, who is under Z-category security, received threat messages on Tuesday claiming that he would be killed by terrorists, according to his office.His office sought enhanced security for him and asked the Home Ministry to carry out a thorough probe into the matter.Paswan is the Union Minister for Food Processing Industries and the supremo of the Lok Janshakti Party (R). According to his office, an unsigned communication was received by the ministry on Tuesday and was found to contain a direct threat to his life.In a letter to Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Alok Kumar Singh, Additional Private Secretary to Paswan, said the communication contained two mobile numbers. He said that, after it was opened, it was found to carry a direct threat to the life of the Union Minister for Food Processing Industries. Singh said the threatening part of the communication, excluding the mobile numbers mentioned in it, read: "You will be killed shortly by hardcore terrorists."According to the letter, the contents of the communication, especially the direct nature of the threat and the reference to "hardcore terrorists", were a matter of grave concern and had raised serious apprehensions over the minister's safety and security. The office has sought enhanced security for Paswan and requested a thorough investigation by the Home Ministry.QUOTA BATTLE WITH NDA PARTNERUnion minister Chirag Paswan on Monday said it was his responsibility to help upper castes if they felt they needed justice, and asserted that protecting the interests of deprived classes should not result in the “exploitation of other castes.” Responding to questions from journalists on his strong opposition to a sub-quota for the most deprived sections among Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, he also said he wanted to “serve as a bridge” connecting different social groups.His remarks came two days after Paswan and Union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi sparred over a separate sub-category for the most deprived Dalit sections. Paswan opposed the move, calling it divisive, while the former Bihar chief minister said it would benefit those communities.The Hajipur MP did not directly address his dispute with Manjhi, the founder of the Hindustani Awam Morcha, but outlined his position on reservations. “About reservations, I hold the clear view that if one social segment has its own concerns, taking care of the apprehensions of the others is also the responsibility of our government,” Paswan said.He added, “On one hand, we need to protect the interests of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes, but on the other we also ought to allay fears of the upper castes. Safeguarding interests of one caste should not result in the exploitation of another.” Paswan also accused upper caste politicians of failing to effectively voice the concerns of their own communities. The Union Minister of Food Processing Industries said the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) had always advocated taking along all classes and castes.Paswan said, “I have always tried to connect with people, rising against considerations of caste and religion.
