Now, Hughes is speaking out about the possibility of signing an extension, per Joe Smith of The Athletic.“I really like it here. I love the team. I love the city and the fans. Being in that lockerooom, it’s a special group. I would definitely be open to re-signing here with the guys that we have. There’s a lot of trust with Billy as well. Love Hynesy + Cappy and the coaching staff. I think it’s a great spot, great situation for me,” Hughes said.Keeping Hughes in Minnesota would be huge for the franchise. He was great in the playoffs, being tied for the team lead in assists and points. Hughes found the back of the net four times while adding 11 assists in the postseason. Meanwhile, he played 48 games in the regular season with the franchise. In that time, he lit the lamp five times while adding 48 helpers.Despite playing fewer games than other top scoring options, Hughes still finished fourth on the team in points while leading the team is assists and power play assists. The Wild have limited cap space this upcoming season, but have opening space heading into the 2027-28 campaign.
