Wife’s panic, mystery ‘old man’ & jawdropping confidence… Biggest bombshells in ‘suitcase killer’ case as Afghan charged

THE biggest bombshells in the horrifying case of an Afghan boxer accused of murdering a Brit and stuffing her body in a suitcase have been revealed. From the accused killer’s horrified wife connecting the dots to an alibi involving a mystery old man, shocking revelations continue to rock the Athens courthouse where Sharif Ahmadzai, 26, has been charged with murder. But he has continued to deny murdering Elisabeth. Panicked wife’s ‘key’ evidence The “cunning” Afghan boxer was snared after his terrified wife raised suspicions about his alibi and provided testimony to the police. On July 15, Ahmadzai’s American wife Alaina says she saw a text message sent from Elisabeth to him which read: “Thank you for your intention to come with me.” Later that night, Alaina claimed in her testimony that she woke up and found her husband had left their home without any warning. She said: “I checked his location on my cell phone. At the time, Alaina said she believed his football story as one of his family members had died on the same day. But over the next fortnight, she noticed odd behaviour from her husband. He bought her a flashy new phone and allegedly attempted to give his wife €2,550 (£2,200) in cash. Alaina later turned these items over to the police, suspecting that they were bought using stolen funds from the victim. On July 18, news broke that a woman had been found dead inside a suitcase close to where the couple lived. The victim’s identity was yet to be revealed but Alaina says she woke up in the middle of the night on July 29 and thought it could be Elisabeth. The pair hadn’t spoken for weeks now so Alaina quickly messaged the Brit and received two concerning replies. Ahmadzai claimed an old man told him to abandon Elisabeth’s body Credit: Getty Alaina said: “These messages were not in Lisa’s style both in terms of her level of English and the use of emojis that she never used.” After failing to reach her on a call, Alaina said she started to think about the possibility that Elisabeth could be the woman in the suitcase. She later told police: “All of the above made me feel strange. Especially combining the dates, the messages and my husband’s behavior. “I have various thoughts that make me feel uncomfortable.” After the body was identified as Elisabeth, the wife said she became so afraid that she and her husband left their home and spent the night in different places. The mystery ‘old man’ After his arrest, Ahmadzai claimed that he found Elisabeth dead at her rental apartment and tried to flee the scene. But in a bizarre twist, he told the court that he bumped into an old man who advised him to dump the remains in an abandoned building nearby. The mystery new character was not mentioned in his initial interview with police. Ahmadzai said he returned to the apartment the next day, placed Elisabeth’s body in a suitcase and drove it through Athens. He told cops: “He told me to leave the suitcase with him and he would take care of it.” The Afghan then confessed to withdrawing €10,000 (£8,500) from ATMs in Greece using stolen credit cards that belonged to the victim. Accused killer’s shocking confidence As he continued to deny murdering Elisabeth, Ahmadzai was said to be “confident to the point of disbelief” during his second court hearing. The courthouse is located on Evelpidon Street in the Greek capital – just a few minutes away from where Elisabeth’s body was found. The alleged killer covered part of his face with his jumper as he was hauled into the session by armed and masked officers. His lawyer Christos Erdas confirmed Ahmadzai did not speak during the hearing or submit a plea for any of the three charges he faces. He is yet to have any visits behind bars, including from his wife and mother to his child Alaina, a well-placed source told the Sun. Erdas tried to delay the murder probe, but magistrates handling the case unanimously agreed he should be charged on intentional homicide, robbery and illegal possession of a weapon. Police sources say they are “100 per cent” certain Ahmadzai is involved in her death after he confessed to hiding her body in a suitcase last week. But investigators are still looking for potential accomplices, The Sun has learned.
