Created by Katie Dippold, the hit Apple TV horror-comedy show premiered in April, following town mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) as he attempts to lead the residents of a haunted New England island. After critical acclaim and viewership success, it was confirmed that Widow's Bay season 2 is moving forward. In a recent interview with Collider, Dippold reveals that a writers' room is underway for Widow's Bay season 2 and that some changes are on the way. According to the creator, the sophomore outing will explore some of the show's other characters with more depth, including Bechir (Kevin Carroll), Dale (Jeff Hiller), and Rosemary (Dale Dickey). Check out Dippold's comment below: Definitely want to have way more Bechir. Kevin Carroll is a great actor and he’s so funny. Definitely want to see some Jeff Hiller, Dale, point of view. Absolutely some more Rosemary backstory. So that makes season 2 so fun in the room. Warning! Spoilers ahead for Widow's Bay season 1. Bechir features prominently in season 1, serving as the town's no-nonsense sheriff. Carroll's character is set up for an even larger role in season 2 after the events of the Widow's Bay season 1 finale. Bechir, determined to set up a brighter future for his child, shoots Ruth (K Callan), who is believed to be key to the curse over the island. Though Bechir's plan fails, this certainly proves him to be someone willing to do anything to protect his family, even if it is at odds with his responsibilities as sheriff. Season 2 could see Bechir facing the consequences of his actions, or perhaps becoming even more of a force to be reckoned with in the fight against evil. Both Dale and Rosemary also get some key moments in season 1, both in terms of comedy but also in terms of moving the story forward. Dale, for example, is the one who finds the videos revealing Widow's Bay's history with human sacrifice. Rosemary, on the other hand, has an immense knowledge of the town's genealogical history, which could prove useful. After earning a 98% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes and striking a chord with viewers, anticipation is high for Widow's Bay season 2. The first batch of episodes saw viewership increase from the premiere to the finale, with positive word of mouth playing a crucial role. Much of the praise is aimed at the show's strong writing and characters, as well as the mix of comedy and scares. The rest of the Widow's Bay cast include Stephen Root, Kate O'Flynn, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Neil Casey, Nancy Lenehan, Sipiwe Moyo, and Kylie McNeil, among others. Though nothing is confirmed just yet, most of these actors seem likely to return. Many questions remain about Widow's Bay season 2, but Dippold is evidently maintaining season 1's effective character-focused approach. It's unclear when the sophomore outing may arrive, but viewers can expect some supporting characters to play even larger roles next time around.
