Sign in to your ScreenRant account NCIS, NCIS: New York, and NCIS: Origins all premiered on October 6, 2026, and have been going strong ever since. NCIS returned for season 24, which has seen Tony DiNozzo return in the role of NCIS director. NCIS: Origins, currently in season 3, brought Mark Harmon back to the screen, much to fans’ delight. Meanwhile, NCIS: New York is the newest NCIS franchise offering, pairing up LL Cool J’s NCIS: Los Angeles character, Sam Hanna, with a new character played by Scott Caan, formerly of Hawaii Five-0. CBS has linked up its NCIS offerings on Monday nights since debuting, giving fans a chance to watch them all in tandem. However, tonight, November 3, 2026, CBS is pulling the entire NCIS lineup from the schedule. This is a huge disappointment to fans and, of course, raises the question of why CBS will not be showing the latest episodes of NCIS, NCIS: New York, and NCIS: Origins tonight. Why There Are No New NCIS Season 24, NCIS: New York, & NCIS: Origins Season 3 Episodes Tonight (November 3, 2026) While it isn’t uncommon for network TV shows to take mini-hiatuses during their run or mandatory winter breaks for the holidays, that isn’t why CBS won’t be airing any new NCIS episodes tonight. There’s actually a good reason they pulled the shows from the air tonight (though it's a reason some might find annoying) — today, November 3, is Election Day. That’s right, mid-term elections are here for those in the U.S., and millions are going to the polls today to vote. These high-profile elections could have major implications for the House and the Senate, and, in turn, the entire U.S. government, so most broadcast networks will be offering election coverage the entire night. That includes CBS, which, instead of airing new episodes of its three NCIS shows, will be turning over the entire primetime block for election coverage, which will run from 7 p.m. EST to midnight EST. It all starts at 7 p.m. EST with CBS News: America Decides: Election 2026, before switching over briefly to CBS News New York at 11 p.m. EST. The primetime block finishes its last half hour by going back to CBS News: America Decides: Election 2026. Unfortunately, that means not even reruns of these three NCIS shows will be available, and for the most part, those not interested in coverage of the election will have to rely on streaming, as almost every network will be doing the same as CBS. When WIll New Episodes Of NCIS Season 24, NCIS: New York, & NCIS: Origins Season 3 Release? Fans might not be able to enjoy NCIS, NCIS: New York, and NCIS: Origins tonight, but the good news is that all three shows will return with new episodes next Tuesday, November 10, 2026. All three will be back in their normal time slots — NCIS at 8 p.m. EST, NCIS: New York at 9 p.m. EST, and NCIS: Origins at 10 p.m. EST. Another good news is that there are plenty more episodes to get through this season —at least for NCIS and NCIS: New York. Unfortunately, NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney received reduced orders this season, so each of these series will only have 10 episodes each, instead of the usual 18 to 20. Once NCIS: Origins has completed its run, NCIS: Sydney will take over that time slot to finish out the season. The reason for these (and other) shows having fewer episodes this time around is to make room for CBS’s new shows like Cupertino and Einstein. However, NCIS and NCIS: New York are slated to have the usual number of episodes, so fans can look forward to that. For NCIS: Origins fans, that means the storyline only has six more episodes to play itself out, so things could start moving quickly (at least in the present Gibbs timeline that has him hunting down his would-be assassins). Since the present timeline has only been bracketing the past timeline with Mark Harmon’s Gibbs appearing in the first and last couple of minutes of each show, six episodes should be enough to wrap everything up, but it will be interesting to see how his investigation goes. Hopefully, by the end of the season, fans will also know the full truth of what happened to Lala (and Gibbs) before she got on that plane. What To Expect From The Upcoming NCIS, NCIS: New York, & NCIS: Origins Episodes CBS NCIS will return with the episode “Speechless,” which looks to be an exciting one, especially as Katrina Law’s real-life daughter will be guest-starring as Chloe, an 8-year-old girl the team discovers alone in her home. Chloe’s mother is missing, and since her mother is a Marine, the NCIS team takes up the case. As the story unfolds, the team discovers that Chloe has a skill that could help break the case. The episode explores just how far parents will go to protect their family. (Law told TVLine this was her “favorite episode of television [she’s] ever done.”) As for NCIS: New York, the show’s next episode, “True Love,” involves a naval interrogator found brutally murdered. While details are scarce, the promo for the show makes it appear like Addy will be putting herself directly in the line of fire when dealing with the killer (it seems the killer prefers dealing with women over men). Meanwhile, Nick’s old NYPD partner is under investigation, which Nick is struggling with. This episode looks to be pretty high-stakes, which is a fantastic way to come back after a week away, especially after the last episode showed the first signs of conflict within the NCIS: New York team. Federal Case File · Open Since 2003 How Well Do You Know NCIS? “Rule #1: Never let suspects sit together — and never assume.” 🚨The FieldCrime scenes 🔬The LabForensics & Caf-Pow! ⚕AutopsyDucky’s domain 📋The RulesGibbs’ gospel 🛡The TeamThe MCRT GEAR UP → 01 The show’s title is an acronym for the real-world federal agency its agents work for. What does “NCIS” actually stand for? ANaval Criminal Investigative Service BNational Crime Investigation Squad CNavy Central Intelligence Service DNaval Counterintelligence & Security ✓ Correct! NCIS stands for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service — a real civilian agency of the U.S. Department of the Navy that investigates crimes involving the Navy and Marine Corps. The show follows its fictional Major Case Response Team. ✗ Not quite! It’s the Naval Criminal Investigative Service — a genuine federal agency under the Department of the Navy that handles crimes tied to the Navy and Marine Corps. The other options sound official, but only one is the real deal. NEXT → 02 For 19 seasons, the team was led by stoic, coffee-fueled Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Which actor played him? AMichael Weatherly BMark Harmon CGary Cole DRocky Carroll ✓ Correct! Mark Harmon played Gibbs, the ex-Marine sniper and unflappable team leader, from the 2003 premiere through Season 19. Michael Weatherly played Tony DiNozzo, Gary Cole later joined as Alden Parker, and Rocky Carroll plays Director Leon Vance. ✗ Not quite! The answer is Mark Harmon, the face of the franchise as Gibbs for 19 seasons. Michael Weatherly played DiNozzo, Gary Cole arrived as Alden Parker, and Rocky Carroll plays Director Vance — but Gibbs is all Harmon. NEXT → 03 NCIS didn’t start on its own — the characters were introduced in a two-part backdoor pilot during an earlier military legal drama. Which show did NCIS spin off from? AThe Unit BLaw & Order CCSI: Miami DJAG ✓ Correct! NCIS spun off from JAG, the long-running Navy legal drama. Gibbs and his team debuted in the Season 8 JAG episodes “Ice Queen” and “Meltdown” (2003) before launching their own series later that year. ✗ Not quite! The answer is JAG. Donald P. Bellisario’s Navy courtroom drama introduced Gibbs and the team in a two-part backdoor pilot in 2003, setting the stage for NCIS to become a massive franchise of its own. NEXT → 04 Gibbs lives by a numbered list of unwritten rules. His famous Rule #9 advises agents to never go anywhere without what item? AA cup of coffee BA knife CA badge DA burner phone ✓ Correct! Rule #9: “Never go anywhere without a knife.” It’s one of the most quoted of Gibbs’ rules and pays off more than once in the field. (Rule #23, fittingly, is “Never mess with a Marine’s coffee if you want to live.”) ✗ Not quite! The answer is a knife — Rule #9 is “Never go anywhere without a knife.” Coffee is practically Gibbs’ lifeblood, but the rule that’s saved his team in a pinch is the one about always carrying a blade. NEXT → 05 The team’s beloved forensic specialist — a brilliant goth who runs on a giant caffeinated drink called “Caf-Pow!” — is named what? AAbby Sciuto BKasie Hines CZiva David DJenny Shepard ✓ Correct! Abby Sciuto, played by Pauley Perrette, was the heart of the lab for 15 seasons — pigtails, dog collar, and an endless thirst for Caf-Pow!. Kasie Hines (Diona Reasonover) later took over forensic duties after Abby’s departure. ✗ Not quite! The answer is Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette), the goth forensic scientist fueled by Caf-Pow!. Kasie Hines came along later as a lab specialist, Ziva David was a field agent, and Jenny Shepard was an NCIS Director. NEXT → 06 The team’s kindly, story-telling Medical Examiner is affectionately nicknamed “Ducky.” What is his actual name? ADr. Jimmy Palmer BDr. Brian Dietz CDr. Donald Mallard DDr. Cyril Taft ✓ Correct! “Ducky” is Dr. Donald Mallard — Mallard, hence Ducky — played by the late David McCallum for two decades. His apprentice and eventual successor in autopsy is Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen). ✗ Not quite! The answer is Dr. Donald Mallard — “Mallard” is the duck that earns him the nickname “Ducky.” He was played by David McCallum. Jimmy Palmer was his assistant, and Dr. Taft was a recurring surgeon and friend of Gibbs. NEXT → 07 Fan-favorite Ziva David, played by Coté de Pablo, joined the team as a liaison and skilled operative. Before NCIS, she was an officer with which intelligence agency? AThe CIA BMossad CMI6 DThe FBI ✓ Correct! Ziva David was a former officer of Mossad, Israel’s national intelligence agency — and the daughter of its director, Eli David. Her deadly skills and mangled American idioms made her one of the show’s most beloved characters. ✗ Not quite! The answer is Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency where Ziva served before joining NCIS — her father Eli David even ran it. The FBI and CIA are frequent NCIS counterparts, but Ziva’s background is Mossad. NEXT → 08 The original team’s headquarters — the bullpen, autopsy, and Abby’s lab — is located at the Navy Yard in which U.S. city? ALos Angeles BNorfolk, Virginia CSan Diego DWashington, D.C. ✓ Correct! The Major Case Response Team works out of the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. The franchise later spread its spinoffs across the map — Los Angeles, New Orleans, Hawai‘i, and Sydney — but the original calls D.C. home. ✗ Not quite! The answer is Washington, D.C., home of the Washington Navy Yard where Gibbs’ team is based. Los Angeles and other cities anchor the spinoffs, and Norfolk is a major naval base often referenced — but HQ is in D.C. CLOSE THE CASE → Case Debrief · Stand Down Your Agent Rank 🛡 / 8 Lead investigator — or still rinsing the Caf-Pow! out of the carpet? ⤴ REOPEN CASE Finally, NCIS: Origins will be dropping the episode “Baila Esta Cumbia,” which sees an investigation in 1993 hitting close to home for Lala, as the team looks into how a con woman ended up murdered. In the present timeline, Gibbs and Bishop are set to engage in an intense interrogation. We don't know who will be on the receiving end of that investigation, but it should bring fans one step closer to the person Gibbs is trying to protect. We now know that it’s definitely not Lala, as in the last episode, Gibbs revealed that she had died quite a while ago in a plane crash, so it stands to reason that the only person it could be is Randy. Vera is still alive, but she’s been a big part of both NCIS: Origins and NCIS, so making the unknown person Randy gives the series a chance to build a storyline around one of the most underused (and underrated) characters on NCIS: Origins. NCIS 6/10 Release Date September 23, 2003 Network CBS NCIS is a television series that follows a team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
