Many of the best and most beloved directors have also had their fair share of other roles in the world of film or wider media, since developing a talent for crafting a film in this sense often is best honed via other roles as well. As it stands, this also means that many fascinating directors who show a unique kind of creative vision when it comes to their work have only directed a few films - particularly when it comes to those who also find themselves drawn to other kinds of world in the same field, since this naturally reduces down the amount of time in which a person can actively take on projects as a director. One prime example of this comes from a horror aficionado who has often been named in conversations about who the master of modern horror stories is - and who displays talents in other genres as well - who has, despite this formidable reputation, only directed three films to date. With that said, it's easy to see why this is the case given the wider scope of their work. Clive Barker Only Directing Three Movies Makes Since Given His Wider Range Of Work On paper, the idea that Clive Barker - who is often cited as one of the most interesting and influential voices in horror in the modern day - has only directed three horror movies might seem jarring. However, this makes a lot of sense given that Clive Barker has taken on a far broader range of roles than directing alone, which goes a considerable way to explain why he has thus far only directed 1987's Hellraiser, 1990's Nightbreed, and 1995's Lord of Illusions. In the film world alone, for example, Clive Barker has been a producer and writer for a far wider selection of films - including the later installments in the Hellraiser movie series. Of course, there's also the matter of Clive Barker's celebrated work as a writer in terms of his books and short stories, too, which also further explain this matter. With an expansive literary roster that has won an impressive assortment of awards, it's perhaps no surprise that Barker has often focused his talents more on penning stories than directing films, even though the legacy of the likes of Hellraiser shows he's capable of suiting both worlds. Clive Barker's Three Movies Are All The More Worth Watching Because Of How Few Films Barker Has Directed Of course, given Clive Barker also wrote the novella that he would go on to adapt into Hellraiser, the 1987 film is especially worth watching, as it's always a luxury to see a movie adaptation helmed by the same person who wrote the original source material. With that said, though, all three of the movies that Clive Barker directed are worth watching, both because of their own merits, and because they're a unique look at the creative vision of a celebrated writer and creative. This is doubly true given Clive Barker's last directorial role was in 1995, meaning it's been just over three decades since we last saw Barker behind the camera, and meaning that those who love his earlier or later work - or both - are all sure to get something out of witnessing Barker's work in a different format via these three assorted films.
