Why me? Rajdeep Sardesai opens up about cancer diagnosis and his fight to recover

Rajdeep Sardesai had planned a summer trip to England to watch India play cricket at Lord's. Instead, a cancer diagnosis changed everything. At Day 2 of the India Today Health Wealth Conclave 2026, the veteran journalist opened up about his prostate cancer journey during the session 'Humne Cancer Ko Haraya', alongside his treating doctor, Dr Anshuman Agarwal, Senior Urologist at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital. Sardesai recalled his first reaction to the diagnosis: "Why me?" He revealed that the cancer was detected during investigations before a planned hernia operation. An elevated PSA level led to further tests and a targeted biopsy. After undergoing surgery, Sardesai is now in remission and continues regular follow-ups. He credited his family, friends and doctors for supporting his recovery. His message to others was simple: do not take life for granted, speak openly about cancer and treasure the people who stand by you.
