In February 2025, ITV confirmed it was launching the “power hour” scheduling pattern for soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street. The format features back-to-back 30-minute episodes of each show every weekday, with Emmerdale airing at 8pm before Corrie starts at 8.30pm on ITV1. But this summer, the scheduling times for the soap operas have suffered multiple interferences due to the World Cup, which ran from June 11 to July 19. Although the long-running ITV show has so far been broadcast at its usual 8.30pm slot every day this week, a new episode will not air tonight (August 7). This is due to the EFL Cup taking priority, with coverage of the first-round tie between Championship clubs Middlesbrough and Wrexham set to begin at 7.30pm. With kick-off taking place at 8pm, just half an hour before Coronation Street would normally get underway, there is no room for an episode to be squeezed into the ITV schedule tonight. Unlike previous schedule shake-ups, there will be no early 7am release for what would have been Friday’s episode on ITVX today. Because tonight’s show has been completely pulled for the live football coverage, it has been postponed rather than moved online.
