It's not uncommon for a film to go by more than one name during its overall production, though these tend to be smaller tweaks overall - such as Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 going on to become Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame before their respective releases. However, it does tend to be more uncommon for a movie to change its official name more than once, especially when it comes to more drastic title changes that bare fewer similarities with what came before name wise. That doesn't mean this is impossible, though, as is evidenced by The Uprising having had four titles including its current one during the path to its debut. With The Uprising set to release in a matter of days thanks to its September 2026 release window, it does appear the movie has reached a final official name that will remain its title throughout its actual release period. That said, it's interesting to note what led to this point, and delve into how and why these alterations appear to have been made over the course of The Uprising's creation. The Uprising Has Been Through Several Different Names During Its Production Process While The Uprising is best known by said movie title - and this blends well with what's in The Uprising's trailer, which centers on the 1381 English Peasants' Revolt, making this name naturally fitting - the film has had a series of prior titles beforehand. First and foremost, back in 2022 (as per Deadline), the movie was first known as The Hood, which underlined the movie's intention to loosely adapt the story of Robin Hood in its narrative. However, this was altered to The Rage in February 2025 (via Deadline), though this name too would be shortlived, as news came in June 2025 that the film would be known as The Uprising instead, with its new amended and subtitled name - The Uprising: The Rise Of Robin Hood (via The Hollywood Reporter) - appearing to be the release's final name, given it is set to have its theatrical debut in just under two weeks on September 10, 2026. The Uprising's Other Major Production Changes Explain Why Its Name Also Changed Several Times Notably, the name of The Uprising isn't the only major detail around the film that has changed during its production process, which goes some considerable way to explain why the title has shifted in the way it has over this period. Back when The Uprising was The Hood, Benedict Cumberbatch was attached to be the lead character in the film, with Paul Greengrass writing and directing, and Tyler Tompson acting as producer. Then, around when it was announced The Hood would become The Rage, it was also revealed that Matthew McConaughey was set to take on the role Cumberbatch was previously cast in, and that Jason Blum would be replacing Tyler Tompson as producer. Finally, just before it was revealed The Rage would be henceforth known as The Uprising, Andrew Garfield was revealed to be starring in the movie rather than McConaughey, which would act as the final changing of hands for this central role. Based on this trajectory - and the various people who have shifted in and out of the production team for The Uprising during its creation - the film having changed names several times makes a lot of sense with this bigger picture in mind.
