The moment, however, left the internet curious about the man who appeared to have PM Modi’s undivided attention at the grand event in Delhi on August 10.So, who is this man? Well, it seems the internet has figured it out.Several videos went viral showing PM Modi seated on a sofa when the man walked up, greeted him and held out his phone.As both spoke, the man appeared to explain something enthusiastically while PM Modi listened closely and looked at the screen. The man in question is Mithilesh Desai, a farmer and entrepreneur from Maharashtra who spent years working on an unlikely agricultural speciality, jackfruit, which earned him the nickname "Jackfruit King of India."Several local reports said that Desai's own journey into farming was somewhat unconventional. Originally from Ratnagiri, he grew up in a farming family and later studied Agricultural Engineering at MPKV, Rahuri. He also spent a period preparing for the UPSC examinations before eventually choosing to return to agriculture.Rather than taking up a conventional job, he decided to make farming his full-time pursuit. His agricultural engineering background came into play as he began looking at ways to combine cultivation with research, processing and commercialisation.That eventually led to his work with Jackfruitking Agro Producer Company Limited, where he has been involved in promoting jackfruit cultivation and developing an agricultural business around the crop. His work has also focused on organic farming and sustainable agricultural practices.He has worked on jackfruit plantations featuring more than 86 varieties from across the world and has also focused on finding ways to process the fruit and turn different parts of the crop into marketable products.Desai’s work has gone well beyond growing jackfruit and selling it at the market.
