Who is Thea’s dad Steve Marchant in Emmerdale?

Who is Thea’s dad? (Picture: ITV) The secret is out: Kim Tate (Claire King) knows that Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) is her daughter in Emmerdale. While Thea has a ton of questions for Kim, there’s a biggie at the top of her list: who’s her dad? Though clearly reticent, Kim tells her that her dad is Steve Marchant, which, while a blast from the past for long-term viewers, may leave newer Dales fans scratching their heads. Steve, played by Paul Opacic, had a three-year stint in Emmerdale between 1996 and 1999. Arriving as an ambitious businessman, his entanglement with the Tate clan saw him eventually get wrapped up with femme fatale Kim, driving him into financial ruin and, eventually, a long stretch in the clink. Still confused? Don’t worry, Metro has all the tea you need on Mr. Marchant. Who is Steve Marchant in Emmerdale? Steve arrived as an ambitious businessman (Picture: Yorkshire Television) Steve initially rocked up to the village and reconnected with his old uni buddy, Rachel Hughes (Glenda McKay) – mum of future Tate monster Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), and they rekindled their romance after her her divorce from Chris Tate (Peter Amory). Their fledgling relationship struggled as Steve tried to integrate with the Tate family, particularly the patriarch of the clan – Frank (Normal Bowler), though his fractious relationship with Chris over Rachel proved to be a huge barrier to his ascendency, leading him to abruptly dump her to further his career. Upon Frank’s death, he found himself consoling Kim, with the two finding a match in each other’s ruthless ambition and power hungry nature and forming a romantic and professional relationship – one that would ensure Steve’s ultimate ruin. After they married in 1998, their financial power began to diminish when their business empire fractured, leading them to turn to even more nefarious ploys to ensure the stability of their cash flow, with Steve swindling Alan Turner (Richard Thorp) out of his life savings. During an illicit scheme to steal an expensive racehorse, Steve accidentally ran over Kathy Glover (Malandra Burrows), and, terrified of being exposed for the crime, attempted to smother her as she lay in hospital, stopped only by the interference of Kim. Kim began to see Steve as little more than a liability and actively worked to ensure he’d take the fall for their many crimes, all the while pretending to stand by him as his loyal wife. Kim framed Steve for everything (Picture: ITV/REX/Shutterstock) When it became clear that the net was closing in, Kim left Steve to fend for himself, escaping alongside her infant son, James, with a bag of stolen cash in a helicopter. Absolutely broken and now completely alone, Steve was found guilty of the couples multiple crimes, and was handed a hefty 10-year prison sentence for the attempted murder of Kathy. As he was dragged away to the cells, Steve screamed out that Kim was behind everything, though it was pointless: his fate was sealed. What else has Paul Opacic been in? Paul is a soap veteran (Picture: Lime Pictures) Paul is somewhat of a soap veteran, notching up roles in Heartbeat, Doctors and Peak Practice alongside his stint in Emmerdale. In 2010, he was cast in Hollyoaks as Carl Costello, the patriarch of the family that included future legendary soap serial killer, Silas Blissett (Jeff Rawle). Carl featured in a number of huge storylines, including an affair with his son’s girlfriend, Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) (of course), before his wife Heidi (Kim Tiddy) was accidentally murdered by her own dad, Silas. After leaving the village, he made a further return that saw him murdered by new serial killer, Breda McQueen (Moya Brady). Paul also had a stint in Corrie (Picture: ITV) Paul played Stefan Brent in Coronation Street, father of murderer teen, Corey (Maximus Brent), who’d viciously attacked Seb Franklin (Harry Visioni) and Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher), resulting in Seb’s death. Stefan tried everything to help his son escape justice, but when their attempt to flee the country was scuppered, Corey wound up arrested and sentenced to life in prison.
