Sign in to your TheGamer account The wait between Cyberpunk 2077 and its sequel is going to be a long one, but fans of the CD Projekt series can return to Night City tomorrow as Edgerunners season two arrives on Netflix. They might notice a familiar face from not just Cyberpunk, but the wider games industry, as the reveal that Hideo Kojima is making his debut in the show has been announced ahead of time. Hideo Kojima Is, Once Again, Hideyoshi Oshima Kojima’s return to Night City in the upcoming season of Edgerunners was revealed via the show’s Twitter account. “Spotting a familiar face, chooms? You may remember seeing him in Konpeki Plaza during The Heist in 2077. Now, the renowned braindance director is making another appearance in Night City,” the post confirming the Metal Gear Solid creator’s Cyberpunk return reads. The post also shows a glimpse of what Kojima looks like in Edgerunners’ reimagined anime Cyberpunk world, since the only form we’ve seen him in so far in Night City was in-game courtesy of his cameo in Cyberpunk 2077. Just how extensive Kojima’s role will be in Edgerunners 2 hasn’t been revealed. Who Is Hideyoshi Oshima? As noted in the Edgerunners post, Hideyoshi Koshima, Kojima’s character in Cyberpunk, can be found in Konpeki Plaza. The character is a braindance producer, and his wants and goals for the fictional futuristic medium are much the same as Kojima’s approach to game development. Oshima doesn’t just want to give people the best and deepest braindance experiences - he strives for every new product he makes to provide new personal connections unlike any achieved in the braindance genre before them. Basically, Oshima’s products are to braindance what Kojima hoped Death Stranding would be to video games. Speaking of which, Cyberpunk 2077 also includes a Death Stranding easter egg in the form of a bridge baby pod. It seems unlikely that will be joining Oshima in the new season of Edgerunners, but you never know. Oshima means big island, while Kojima means little island, which is a neat detail I just learned courtesy of the Cyberpunk Wiki. Oshima might well be one of the only characters we recognize when Edgerunners 2 arrives on Netflix tomorrow. Its creators have said since season one that, if there were ever a season two, it would tell an entirely different story using brand new characters. Edgerunners 2 will fulfill that promise. The new season tells a new story, and while it takes place in the same city as the game and the first season, we’re about to finally be properly introduced to even more Cyberpunk characters we will all inevitably fall in love with over the next few days.
