White Sox To Hire Matt Roffe As Scouting Director

The White Sox are set to hire Matt Roffe as their scouting director, Katie Woo and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic report. The team is not expected to announce the move until next week, per Scott Merkin of MLB.com. Roffe is heading to Chicago on the heels of winning the 2026 World Series as a member of the Brewers’ elite front office. The 30-year-old alumnus of Washington University (St. Louis) spent a half-decade in Milwaukee and worked in multiple positions, most recently as the club’s assistant director of domestic scouting. He took over that role in November 2025. Roffe also has past experience as an analyst in Arizona’s front office, where he overlapped with current White Sox assistant general manager Josh Barfield from 2019-21. Barfield was the Diamondbacks’ director of player development before he became a top lieutenant for White Sox GM Chris Getz in 2023. Getz is bringing in Roffe to replace former director of amateur scouting Mike Shirley, who resigned on Sept. 12. Shirley was a longtime White Sox employee who was at the helm of their amateur scouting department for seven years, but he resigned after the team placed him on administrative leave and investigated allegations of verbal harassment, as Brittany Ghiroli and Keith Law of The Athletic reported at the time. The White Sox spent first-round picks on Garrett Crochet, Colson Montgomery, Noah Schultz, Jacob Gonzalez, Hagen Smith, Billy Carlson and Roch Cholowsky during Shirley’s stint as their amateur scouting leader.
