White Sox designate veteran OF Austin Hays for assignment

Rebilas-Imagn Images The Chicago White Sox designated former All-Star outfielder Austin Hays for assignment on Wednesday. Hays, who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list, batted .233 with a homer and seven RBIs in 12 games. Hays, 31, landed on the 10-day IL on May 4 with a left calf strain and was transferred to the 60-day IL on June 9. He batted .250 with six home runs and 17 RBIs and 17 strikeouts in a 20-game rehab assignnebt with Triple-A Charlotte. An All-Star with Baltimore in 2023, Hays is a career .262 hitter with 84 home runs and 319 RBIs in 694 games with the Orioles (2017, 2019-24), Philadelphia Phillies (2024), Cincinnati Reds (2025) and White Sox. Chicago signed Hays to a one-year, $6 million deal during free agency this winter. --Field Level Media
