White House feeling ‘multiple stages of grief’ after major Democratic wins: Christian Datoc

Washington Examiner White House reporter Christian Datoc said officials at the White House are experiencing multiple stages of grief after the blue wave in the midterm elections.“My talks with White House officials, there was a lot of profanities,” Datoc said Wednesday on C-Span. “ … But folks were defiant, I think that’s the right word to describe the mood right now.”Datoc said an official told him that voters were going to experience “buyer’s remorse” after Democrats flipped several major seats, gaining control of the House and Senate. Officials at the White House believe the Iran war was to blame for the midterm election losses, he added. “And ultimately they’re still saying gas prices are going to come down super quickly because President Trump is going to wrap up this war incredibly quickly,” Datoc said. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump is reportedly prepping for a Democratic Congress. One aide told Datoc to “buckle up,” he said. Trump said Wednesday morning on Fox and Friends that he had friends on the Democratic side of the aisle whom he believed he could work with to address immigration among other issues.Datoc said the president expressed optimism in being able to work with Democrats.“And that ultimately he thinks he can work across the aisle because he has the unimpeachable power of the veto,” Datoc said.EMBATTLED HOUSE DEMOCRAT JIMMY GOMEZ LOSES REELECTIONOther issues, including the housing crisis, are another front where even Republicans concede that not enough has been done to address the concerns, Datoc said.“Now, will Democrats play ball with the president, or will they simply launch investigations, impeachment proceedings?” Datoc said. “I think it’s still too early to tell right now, but based on the math, the ball really is in Democrats’ court right now.”
