White couple are tortured for hours in latest South Africa farm raid: Husband forced to watch with gun in his mouth as thieves try to mutilate wife's breasts with bolt cutters

A couple in South Africa suffered hours of brutal torture during a raid at their game farm last weekend. Les Brett, 67, and his 68-year-old wife Natasha were attacked at around 7.30pm last Sunday when three armed men invaded their home in Broederstroom, North West province. The masked attackers stripped the couple naked, beat and burned them with boiling water for at least three hours with the aim of getting the keys to their safe. But Mr Brett refused to hand them over. The attackers then cut Mrs Brett's nipples with bolt cutters. They then repeatedly threatened to rape her. The assailants also forced an AK-47 rifle into Mr Brett's mouth. The victim is believed to have sustained injuries that may require surgery. The savage ordeal ended when Mr Brett capitulated and surrendered the keys. The attack is the latest in a wave of home raids that have sent shockwaves across South Africa. It comes mere days after farmer Donovan Marx was brutally beaten and had both his ears hacked off last Wednesday during a raid on a farm in Syferfontein - around 57 kilometres (35 miles) away from Broederstroom. Response unit SRU High Risk Security received a call at around 10.30pm and are said to have responded within four minutes, alongside paramedics, local news Rekord reported. The couple were found to have been burned with boiling water, severely beaten and stabbed, according to Arthur Crewe from SRU.'This attack on our old people is despicable beyond words,' the couple's friend Warren Geddes wrote on Facebook.Mr Geddes criticised the police's approach to the incident and claimed it was being investigated as a house robbery despite the prolonged hours of torture. He also claimed residents knew the three attackers from separate attacks and accused the police of failing to act. No arrests have been made.SRU warned that the guns stolen during attacks may be used in further crimes. Residents were urged to remain inside if they notice suspicious movement or hear unusual noises, and secure their doors and windows as security personnel investigate. Police arrested two suspects in the Ventersdorp area on Saturday before apprehending three more in Promosa, near Potchefstroom, on Sunday, 1 November.
