Whisper It, But Avatar: Seven Havens Will Prove Korra Haters Wrong

Avatar: Seven Havens will bring The Legend of Korra's titular character back in an interesting way, but one that will prove her haters wrong. The trailers for Avatar: Seven Havens were the first material from the show to confirm Korra's return. Despite the popularity of the overall Avatar franchise, though, this return is not necessarily a welcome one for certain sections of the fanbase. After the release of The Legend of Korra, the titular hero proved divisive, to say the least. After all, Korra was intentionally written to be the opposite of Avatar: The Last Airbender's protagonist, Aang; Where the latter was calm, pacifistic, and more diplomatic, the former was hot-headed, stubborn, and more gung-ho in her responses to trials and tribulations. Many embraced this and, by the time of The Legend of Korra's finale, those foundations proved to be the beginnings of a well-rounded arc that made Aang's successor a little more like him. Conversely, others refused to acknowledge Korra's arc, instead committing to dubbing her a worse character than Aang, even to this day. Enter the timeline of Avatar: Seven Havens. Although the show takes place over two centuries after The Legend of Korra, its trailers made a point of showing the predecessor to its new Avatar protagonist, Pavi, as essential to the status quo of the franchise. What is most interesting about this is that the trailers seem to align with the section of the fanbase that places The Legend of Korra as a lesser-ranked Avatar: The Last Airbender TV show. As Avatar: Seven Havens' premise indicates, the Avatar, more specifically, Korra, is viewed as a destroyer who doomed humanity. This leads her successor, Pavi, to be hunted by humanity as opposed to revered, regardless of the latter's attempts to save human civilization, the titular Seven Havens, from a new threat. To those still harboring hatred for Korra, this could be interpreted as an "apology" by the show's creators, as they seek to retcon the past Avatar's journey and align her more closely with that specific viewpoint. However, I think Avatar: Seven Havens will prove that incorrect. What is more likely is that Korra sacrificed her reputation, and possibly her life, to save humanity, with only time and word-of-mouth misconstruing her as a destroyer. With Korra appearing directly in Avatar: Seven Havens' trailers, this is more likely than ever. Aang himself never appeared and was only referenced in The Legend of Korra's trailers, explaining his more minimal role in that show. Korra, though, is seemingly central to the new show's premise, in which Pavi will likely uncover the truth about the Seven Havens, thus proving the haters of Korra, both in and out of the universe, wrong. Avatar: Seven Havens Can Continue To Show Korra As She Should Be Seen If, indeed, Avatar: Seven Havens reveals that Korra's actions saved humanity, it will continue to show her as she should be seen. As of The Legend of Korra's ending, the character had changed the world for the better in ways many of her predecessors failed to achieve. Of course, Aang stopped a century-long war and brought harmony back to the world, but Korra's actions were no less of a paradigm shift. By the series' conclusion, Korra had helped to re-establish the Air Nomads, brought the spirits back into the physical world, and opened up the Spirit World for humans. More than any Avatar before Aang's time, this changed the world in massive ways. If the aforementioned theory about Avatar: Seven Havens is correct, Korra will only continue to be someone who saved and changed the world for the better. If Korra did encounter a cataclysmic event and create the Seven Havens to save humanity, she would again have had a hand in completely altering the globe to make life better for its citizens. If, by the end of Avatar: Seven Havens, Korra is rightfully seen as a savior once more, it will be a strong thematic continuation of her character. The Legend Of Korra Already Set Up Korra's Big Seven Havens Role To further support this theory, The Legend of Korra already set up how she could play a big role in Avatar: Seven Havens. In season 2 of the former show, Korra's Avatar spirit, Raava, was pulled from her body and destroyed. This severed Korra's connection to all of the past Avatars and, while she was able to bring Raava back, that severance persisted. As a result, Korra was essentially the first in a new line of Avatars, a line that is continuing with Pavi in Avatar: Seven Havens. Therefore, Pavi will only have Korra for guidance in Avatar: Seven Havens. Just as Roku acted as a guide for Aang in The Last Airbender and, in turn, Aang did the same for Korra, Pavi will have to rely on Korra. Unlike Aang, though, who often consulted other Avatars like Kyoshi, Yangchen, Kuruk, and more, Pavi will have only Korra. This, above all else, sets up the latter to have a big role in Avatar: Seven Havens, a role that will, hopefully, prove her haters wrong.
