Where To Find St. Mihai's Crypt In The Blood of Dawnwalker

Shortly after returning from St. Tyna's with Anca in The Blood of Dawnwalker, you'll look through a seemingly empty book at the inn that actually holds what could be the key to defeating Brencis once and for all. The only problem is that the answer, a sword, is nowhere to be found. To find the sword, Anca and Coen agree that Coen will seek out the one person who might know where it is, Albertus. This decision will immediately begin the A Monk And A Saint quest, which will lead you on a journey to find the weapon that can finally end the Vrakhiri's reign of terror. This article contains spoilers for the main story that are tied to this quest, so proceed with caution. Where To Find Albertus At the moment, all you have to go on is that Albertus is somewhere in the Middens, which is west of Svartrau City. As is the case for most quests, the location will be marked by a radius that encompasses the entire area, so it's not super helpful. There are other ways to trigger this quest beyond just completing Echoes of Silenced Bells, but that's the most natural path if you're also pursuing Anca's story. To make things a little easier for you, the house you're looking for is along the westernmost edge of Middens and marked on the map below: As you make your way through Middens, you'll notice scribbles all over several walls, which will let you know you're going the right way. Once you reach the home covered in scribbles, you've found Albertus. When you enter, you'll find Albertus seemingly out of his mind, scribbling on the wall, as Anca warned. If you try to approach him, he'll brush you off and attempt to continue what he was doing, which you'll realize is writing down text he has memorized and is afraid of forgetting. As you can imagine, attempting to force the information out is rather useless, so the best way to get what you need is to play into his delusions a bit. Specifically, you'll want to select the following options: [Pick up the charcoal] Abelard the Sorrowful Svartrau Plaza His penance, the place of his Redemption Never once set foot inside it St. Mihai, a great warrior, arrived in Vale Sangora. This will lead to the conclusion that the sword of St. Mihai is in a crypt beneath the Svartrau Cathedral, which is where your objective will take you next. The next part of this quest will play out differently depending on whether you arrive at the Cathedral during the day or at night, but the ultimate ending will be the same. Both are outlined below. Where To Find St. Mihai's Crypt At Svartrau Cathedral During The Day The Cathedral is in the main part of Svartrau City, and is one of the tallest buildings in the city, so it's relatively hard to miss. Once you reach it, head inside, and a cutscene will begin involving a baptism. If you remember your time in Laslea, you might start to recognize Florin as the same priest who was present during the Blood Mass in Laslea the night Coen's mother died. Despite Coen's best efforts, Florin will approach and ask if you two know each other. You can choose whether to acknowledge the connection or play it off. Regardless of what you choose, the scene will play out the same, with Florin asking you to confess your sins to him. You can refuse or accept, but keep in mind that partaking in the confession will cost you a time segment. If you don't want to spend the time, all the confession involves is picking from a few sins while Florin prays. He concludes with a somewhat ominous statement that you'll play a larger part in things than you realize, before leaving. Either way, Father Florin will leave, and you'll be left to speak with people in the Cathedral to learn more about the crypt. Now, there are a few ways you can go about this. If you use Focus Mode, you'll see that several people in the cathedral are highlighted, including a believer, an acolyte, a Deacon, and a craftsman. The main person you need to speak with is the Deacon. He will tell you he doesn't know anything about a crypt, but if you offer to help him find the missing caretaker, then he'll give you access to the library to search for clues yourself. You can also speak with the Believer and the Acolyte to gain information and access to the treasury, which will lead you to St. Mihai's chalice, but this is optional for this quest and primarily leads you to clues for another quest tied to Florin. So while I would recommend checking that out, you don't need to worry about it right now for this quest. A Dubious Gift Quest The Deacon will tell you to check the Almshouse for more information, which is another building on the church grounds. Inside, you'll find an Asylum Resident on the first floor who mentions the building being haunted if you pay him for the info, but you can also head upstairs and through the first door you come to. Inside, you'll find a small room with a bookshelf and some highlighted scratch marks on the floor. If you inspect them, Coen will realize the bookshelf is blocking a doorway leading to the room with the plague patients, who are, of course, just skeletons now. Continue down the steps in this room to find what has become of the caretaker. At this point, you'll be forced to fight the Almshouse Monstrosity, which may be a bit tough, so you might want to create a manual save before engaging. When you finish with the monster, use your Compel Soul witchcraft ability to speak with a corpse in the room and learn what happened to him. At this point, you'll learn that Radu was involved in things he shouldn't have been and it turned into a disaster. Be sure to loot the room for the Caretaker's key before leaving. Go back to the Deacon and tell him what you learned to gain access to the library, which will conclude the A Dubious Gift quest within the A Monk And A Saint quest. Search The Cathedral Library With the key in hand, head to the Cathedral Library, which is right outside in the courtyard, to the right. The book you're looking for is upstairs and next to a desk. It should be easy to spot, even without Focus Mode, since little gold butterflies will be flying around the shelf. Pick up the book and read it at the desk nearby to learn the location of St. Mihai's crypt. At this point, you know that St. Mihai's crypt is in one of the few graves in the Cathedral's graveyard, but you have no way to know which one without finding something showing his symbol. If you spoke with the Believer and the Acolyte in the Cathedral and entered the Treasury, then you should already have St. Mihai's chalice and don't need to worry about the stained glass mentioned below. If you haven't, you can use the Caretaker's key that you retrieved from the corpse to enter his building. The Caretaker's building is in the same area as the library, and you'll be prompted to use the key when you approach it. Inside, loot the chest in the back of the room to find a broken piece of stained glass. Take the stained glass back to the Cathedral and give it to the craftsman there, who will repair it, allowing you to see St. Mihai's symbol. Now that you know what symbol you're looking for, you can head to the Cathedral graves and clear the leaves from the second-to-last slab. Coen will match the symbol, and you'll be able to open the slab and reveal the crypt below. Where To Find St. Mihai's Crypt At Svartrau Cathedral At Night If you head to the Cathedral at night, your experience will be very different and a lot shorter than visiting during the day. That said, I wouldn't recommend skipping ahead in time just to come at night. Once you reach the church from the main entrance on the left, use your Shadow Step ability to climb up the scaffoldings along the tower on the right side of the entrance. This will give you access inside, where you can drop to the platform below and spy on what's happening inside the Cathedral. If you drop and get caught by Xanthe here, you will have to fight her, and it may not be an easy win depending on your level. So, I recommend saving when you enter the Cathedral just in case you fall. That said, if you do manage to beat her, then you'll have already finished off this member of Brencis' court. If you'd rather avoid an early boss fight, you can avoid her by sticking to the scaffoldings and pillars inside the Cathedral. On a handful of the scaffoldings, you'll be able to inspect the ceiling for clues about St. Mihai. The clues you're looking for are on a scaffolding near the front where Xanthe is holding her ceremony. Once you find what you're looking for, your next objective is to search the Cathedral's Courtyard. The easiest way to do this is to go back to the way you came and do it outside the Cathedral. While on the grounds, you'll hear howling, which will trigger the Night Terrors quest. Night Terrors Quest Coen will determine that the howling is coming from the well in the middle of the courtyard, so investigate it to find several Kobolds hiding below. After defeating them, use Focus Mode to discover a wall near a lit torch and a corpse. Investigate the corpse to learn that this was a thief attempting to reach St. Mihai's crypt for the Silver Sword. After you're done investigating, head back into the main room and use Focus Mode to reveal a boulder you can push, which will reveal a path out of this well. You'll emerge right in the middle of all the graves, so look for the second-to-last one and inspect it. Coen will recognize St. Mihai's symbol and open up the crypt. Enter The Crypt At this point, whether you enter during the day or at night, this section will play out mostly the same. Head down into the crypt after saving, and you'll find a large room with a cracked wall and a sound coming from behind it. Break it down to reveal St. Mihai, who is still alive. St. Mihai unfortunately won't have much time for conversation yet, as he'll immediately engage you in a fight. Once the fight is over, you'll learn that the sword is broken and that, like you, he is a Dawnwalker. St. Mihai will die shortly after this information is shared, and the A Monk And A Saint Quest will end, triggering the Forget It Anew quest to repair the broken sword. If you complete this section during the day, you'll also be able to compel St. Mihai to tell you a bit more about when he died, after collecting some of the items in the room. Don't forget to loot the room and St. Mihai. Be aware that the Forge It Anew quest may be challenging depending on your current level, so you may want to complete a few other quests before moving on to that one.
