There are eight major supermarkets in the UK, and which one you choose for your weekly shop might reveal more about you than you realise. New research from More in Common has revealed the political parties shoppers at each store are most likely to vote for, and the results might surprise you. According to the new poll, those shopping at Waitrose these days are more likely to vote for Labour than the Conservative Party. Waitrose shoppers are more likely to vote Labour, according to the poll (Picture: moreincommon) Shoppers at Asda, Tesco, and Aldi are also more inclined to vote Labour, as per the results. This is particularly interesting as Waitrose and Aldi are at opposite ends of the cost spectrum, with Waitrose regularly named the UK’s most expensive supermarket by Which?, and Aldi the cheapest. As for the Conservatives, the party is leading the way with M&S and Sainsbury’s shoppers. Morrisons and Lidl proved the go-to supermarkets for Reform voters, while Waitrose was popular with Liberal Democrat supporters. The Green Party and Restore Britain also had their favourites, with Greens preferring Lidl, and Aldi being the supermarket of choice for Restore. The data suggests Sainsbury’s and M&S shoppers favour the Conservatives (Picture: In Pictures via Getty Images) Ask Metro Use AI to go deeper into the stories you care about – powered by Metro and trusted publications. Online, the results have ‘shocked’ some Brits, with @PatrickBasiewic saying on X: ‘Somehow shocking and yet completely predictable.’ While @markthorley was surprised, commenting: ‘Waitrose voting Labour… not exactly sure about that!’ And @Casteldi_Sangro added: ‘Surprised by such big differences between Waitrose and M&S and Aldi and Lidl.’ Others argued it’s all a case of ‘location, location, location’, saying where people shop will mostly depend on which brands they have access to in their local area. Which supermarket is your go-to? In other supermarket news, the best own-brand tea bags have been crowned in a new taste test. A panel of 67 tea drinkers compared 11 different teas, and it was Sainsbury’s Red Label and Waitrose Original Blend that came out on top. Morrisons has also become the first UK supermarket to launch new temperature-controlled InPost-style lockers where customers can pick up their Click & Collect order in seconds. And Brits have been ‘beefing’ over the correct nickname for Sainsbury’s. They can’t decide if it’s Sainos or Sainsbo’s, so we asked the retailer. Do you have a story you’d like to share?
